TT - Why are they unwanted on the secondary market?

I have seen this arguement in numerous posts on TRF and I do not understand it.

How is a watch more in your face than a car or a house for example ( among all other things) ??

Assuming you are in the fortunate category , do you sell your house so people dont think you are better off than others ? Do you sell your car and get a scooter ? Do you not go to your favourite restaurant ? You go but order burger instead of steak in case a neighbour sees you ???

Besides those really interested in watches ( maybe 1 % of population ) , I doubt most people give the watch a second glance... and if they do, how many care.... and if they do care how many think it might not be real.

Must be a generational thing but have never heard of "Ed Hardy" as a term, don't know who he is. So your statement looked like gibberish to me.

As far as classy, refined, timeless that is just a matter of opinion. There are a few posters above that seem to indicate that TT is less than classy and rather dated (80's). To each his own.

Well i love the TT models, and to say it says you cant afford gold is the same as saying getting a SS model shows you cant afford WG. Its just in fashion to wear SS at the moment, and it seems to me anyone who differs from wearing a SS is seen as old fashioned or weird. The only way years ago to get on the Rolex ladder was to get the cheapest model and that invariably was the SS. I find it quite amusing the people who wouldn't be seen dead with a TT as if it has some kind of stigma attached to it. Also amusing the people who wouldnt wear a TT blue Sub but love the WG model as from a distance it could be an SS model. This is just my opinion anyway.

I don't think it says that at all. Time has shown that all things considered, SS is the best material for a watch. Look, durability. Obviously price is a factor, but regardless of this not everybody wants a gold watch.

I think gold only works in certain circumstances, SS always looks great.

I don't dislike TT Rolexes, but prefer SS. Truth is, when I think of "too tone" watches, I picture a hairy chested 65 year old guy from Long Island who reeks of Pierre Cardin, sporting a ridiculous dyed black comb-over.

In good shape there is nothing like a TT shining in the light. I don't think it is a cost factor like mentioned earlier. Very Classy. I don't think it says that gold and stainless together means you are not well enough off to get the full gold. Maybe it means you are better off than the guy who just buys stainless. All kidding aside it really doesn't matter what model one has, it is to each their own.

I don't care for most Rolex TT watches. The exception is the DateJust. In fact, I love it so much that I still have (and love) my 1987 TT DJ 16013.

And while I'm at it I think you can only pull off a full gold watch with gold bracelet if you are Tony Soprano or Elle Macpherson.

A gold watch with leather strap is hot though, not too over the top.

I think my TT datejust 16233 doesn't say old from the 80's. I think what it says is the man wearing this watch has extremely good taste in time pieces a very elegant watch..

TT do look good in certain models. DJ, Daytona to me look the best. I don't think they look 80's. Most like SS. Most of mine are SS but I do like a little bling here and there.

I remember a chap in an office that I used to take supplies to who had a TT sub. He was a total arsehole! This topic reminded me of the conversation on watches I tried to have with him. He was just too up his own to be talking to a seamaster wearing peasant like me. I don't mind TT, though I'm probably soured to them by this isolated incident.

I have. No idea why they are unwanted. I think that the TT version of the sport watches such as the GMT and the Daytona are absolutely striking. The contrast in metals is what does it for me.

I don't think anyone's offended. I'm not, anyway. I usually wear my stainless watches, but I like gold on a strap, particularly the Breitling Chronomat 18k yellow gold on a black band. I have a white gold meteorite DD, which I love, and I'd never strap it. The bracelet is great, and it doesn't flash like yellow gold, so nobody's going to mistake me for Tony Soprano. It's very understated and elegant.

I hadn't realized that TT Rolexes were drugs on the market. Obviously, the prices need to come down until sales start to kick in. That's right. Come on down, prices. Keep coming. More, more. I mean less, less.

Then I'll buy that TT black submariner to go with my TT blue one. Oh yeah!!!

I think the 2-tone DJ with a jubilee band is a very pretty watch!

I much prefer it over most other watches.

I do have a SS model too, but it just doesn't have that same "sparkle"!!!
