when something is made in modern production to be collectible from the start... i just don't think that its authentic. some things perhaps but few and far between.

the mona lisa was not created to be collectible, it became that way later... so the out of the box franck muller - mona lisa, is not convincing me of its long term value?

ps as i wright this there is a member looking to trade his muller for a rolex (just about any rolex)
What I do like about these watches are their styling.Love it !! Sort of art deco ,retro, but modern too and stylish.Even the crazy hours look "right".It still looks stylish and it could easily look cheap and not work.Patek Phillipe chose this man to do their museum, his Aeternitas 4 and yearly world premieres are special.I think one can say that he is no fool when it comes to mechanical watch design and manufacture.

two important things are:

1). The aeternitas that everyone is discussing is the pinnacle of what FM makes...there are loads of other simpler models and we should rather discuss and comment on them cuz frankly, this aeternitas is not for common consumption :)
2). when we talk about a brand like FM, we must consider who they make watches for...a FM buyer, IMHO, values uniqueness most, and exclusivity...so that is what they maker keeps in mind...so FM is not for everyone and they wish to keep it this way.

I have liked very few of their designs but they ones I liked I would not hesitate to buy.

one other brand I feel similarly about is Roger Dubuious(sp?) but I really like many of their designs and they are xomparable engineering marvels so I rather look at them over FM.

Couple days ago I had an opportunity to close inspect a good friend`s Franck Muller Double Mystery Limited Edition. Although that kind of watch is everything but my cup of tea, I was truly amazed with it`s quality and wrist presence. It`s really work of art, definitely not for everybody (me included), but work of art nevertheless.
