ok I didn't read your last post about the price premium you have to pay on the 16520. At that point I would go for a 6263 (it plays in a different league IMHO)

I would never get the older 16520 if I could get a 116520- the 16520 does not have a stop seconds function so you can never accurately set the watch, and the power reserve is only 54 hours vs. 72 hours on the 116520. Does the 16520 have the easy-link extension? if not, then that is also a huge disadvantage to the 116520. I got a white dial 116520 recently and would never trade it for any of the older Daytonas

My vote goes to the 116520. Then again I'm biased.

Sanity check tells me if the premium is 75% over the BNIB 116520, then perhaps I should even look at the classic Daytonas, with a little bit more saving to get the classic PNs.
Crazy how a watch only, no box, papers, etc can fetch up to 75% premium. Anybody got same experience with Zenith Daytona purchase? |

Zenith, but the white dial. I have heard people say that the black dial Zenith is harder to read than the current black dial and, at least for my eyes, that is true. You might check that out first.

That's bull
Being the last of the Zenith movement Daytonas couple with the introduction of the SEL, the A and P series Zenith command higher prices than others, but I wouldn't pay 75% more for it, maybe 10-20% if it's a complete set and in mint condition.

I have one of the last Zeniths.. and yes:
- SELs - prefer the off white sub dials on the black dial. - and like the slimmer hands. The newer Daytona definitely has a better feeling strap. No doubt about it. But that will be the case for all newer watches now. The question is, which do you like the feel of more? Does one pull your emotional heart strings that bit more? I went for the Zenith as it was the model I lusted after when I couldn't afford it. If all you want is a Daytona, get the cheaper one. PS. the Zenith will be a lot further along its way to vintage... 12 out of 25-30 years... |

I found a good example of an A Series Daytona black dial with a box and a certification, plus one extra link going for USD 12,000.
What do you guys think? Should I go for it? This is almost the same price of a BNIB 116520 Black Dial Daytona. Thanks |

I would go with the 116520. At the end of the day you have to ask yourself if you are buying for collecting or for self enjoyment. If it is for the latter, then go with the new one for sure. For collecting, I would search around for a better price on the Zenith movement.

go crazy about them, the 116520 is an all Rolex made movement that has nothing in common with the Zenith based and heavily modified 16520. So 16520 if you are a seasonal collector and know what you want or doing and 116520 if you want a modern "true King" of all watches. |

I had them both, and here is an A/B comparison between the A serial Zenith and Z serial 116520 Daytonas.
I sold the Z serial to help fund the Zenith which was at a higher price. http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...06#post1814106 Differences include: - brushed vs. polished lugs - stubbier hour markers on the 116520 - different subdials placement - numbers on the bezel are engraved vs. laser etched An A serial Zenith will have the luminova dial and hands as well as the SEL bracelet. |

the lugs are polished for the 116520 while they are brushed for the 16520. For the black dial, the look is very similar but the difference is more obvious for the white dialed varieties.
So the look is what you should buy as the functionalities are the same and unless you have a sapphire caseback, the movement is not as important IMHO.

Did the A series use the same type of bracelet compares to the current 116520?
I read somewhere that the foldover and the clasp were different in 116520? |

For the black dial I think the 116520 looks better. On the other hand, for the white dial I would choose the Zenith.

Grab the Zenith first, source around to make it a complete set!
Here's my U series 16520 that I purchased sometime back (sorry for the poor pic!). |

J. are you saying that the selling price for the zenith is 75% higher than the price of a brand new 116520? Maybe the 16520 is more collectable but I would never pay that much for a pre-owned watch when I could be a brand new model, better movement, better bracelet for 75% less. Just my opinion and I admittedly am not an expert in the field. I had the opportunity to purchase a zenith SS Daytona from Tourneau for about $5,000 more than the price of my New SS Daytona. It was an easy decision for me. With the money I saved I am now thinking about purchasing either SD or a Sub No Date.

I happen to find a better deal A series Daytona, not the one with 75% premium, this one is the same price with BNIB 116520. |

J. is an A series is about 10-11 years old? If so for me it would still be the new 116520 with a new warranty. Anyway good luck and by the way which color do you prefer and can you get that color in the older watch?

16520 with black dial. I like the less stuby markers and skinny hands but still thinking about the price vs value of 116520.
By he way, Just wondering if the color of the subdials of the black 16520 is the same as 116520? |
