To me the DSSD packs a punch and screams quality vis-a-vis my gang of a dozen other watches. To me it is very well loved indeed

DSSD is a great piece. It has presence AND class. A typical Rolex sports icon. Most of the Panerais are a lot bigger. I'd take it over a huge Panerai any day. No offense Panerai owners.

Fact or opinion?
Quote:
I tried one - for me personally, it was too thick and heavy for an everyday utility watch. That is my opinion and it is personal to my own experience and judgement. That does not mean that for someone else, it might not be perfect and comfortable. Too often folks will state these things as if they are proven facts and they are the authority on the subject. Then others who share a different viewpoint feel inclined to argue / defend, etc. Silliness if you ask me. |

DSSD in movies...
On my recent flight back home I was watching an in-flight movie called "Unknown" with Liam Neeson who is wearing the DSSD through out the movie... I though it looked great on him!
Personally I love the DSSD... and would wear it if I had it! Cheers!

I believe there are people for whom owning a specific Rolex model, or maybe two different models, would be horological nirvana. I also think there are brand loyalists, who would own one or two examples of every model and vintage, were their pockets that deep.
If the DSSD is your nirvana, excellent. It may not be others, however. I think many on this forum are thinking "my favorite model is the best Rolex". My perspective is, I really like this particular watch, and it happens to be a Rolex. So no one is dissing the DSSD per se. It is all a matter of perspective and taste (and perhaps budget). Peace.

Every Rolex watch is beautiful and unique in its own way and the beauty is in the eye of the owner of that watch. Buy and wear what you like and what others might think, have care factor zero. Its your money, taste, and arm, enjoy the time you will be spending with that watch on your arm!

I just saw it, but not sure what you mean, that watch is not visible on his wrist once throughout the whole movie, it just gets passed around. I agree it did look nice, but that's probably because there was no wrist to compare it to.

I tried on a DSSD last weekend for the first time. One time is all it for me to know I'll never own one. I appreciate the watch and all of its achievements but its just way to tall on the wrist for my liking. Not for me

I like the DSSD but as has been said the weight and thickness is not for everyone. I found it ok to wear when sized correctly. Buy and wear the watch you want.

The DSSD does seem to attract a little heat at times, but It should not concern anyone as an owner...We all have different tastes, that's why there are many models to chose from! Enjoy what you wear and never be concerned about those that don't have the same views as yourself!

To the OP........
It honestly doesn't matter what anyone else thinks here on TRF of a given watch. If you like it, buy it........and wear it, and post TONS of pictures of it. I have several watches that get very polarized comments when pictures are posted: A PVD'd SeaDweller A 5513 that I sent off to have relumed (a big "no-no" for a vintage) A 1680 Red Sub with a service Luminova dial And I also have a DSSD. I don't care if others like my watches, notice my watches, or give a hill-of-beans about my watches. I like them, and that is all that matters. It is nice for people to be respectful and not rude about your things, and I have found that most people here on TRF are quite courteous. Wear your DSSD with pride because it is a great watch. It is not for everyone, but then most things aren't. Congrats on a great watch

Canīt say that I have.
I come from a working class familiy, and I also had to fight my way back from a serious car accident when I was in my twenties. I know the value of money, you learn that when youīre out of luck. I donīt consider money and material things as an accomplishment. Money gives you a lot of freedom and can make life somewhat easier, but it canīt make it happy and smooth. When you want to judge a persons succes, look at their family and friends. Thats all that matters. The rest we only borrow. |

It is interesting.............I have been accosted by friends/acquaintances before for the mere fact of wearing a Rolex. It is too expensive, waste of money, too flashy, etc, etc. The last time, we were standing outside by my friend's brand-new Cadillac Escalade that she had traded for only days before. She had traded a less-than-6 months old GMC Denali with about 12,000 miles on it "because she didn't like it". Ironic, I say. We were also standing beside my work commuter.........a 2000 Honda Accord with 202,000 miles on it, and a dent in the right front fender. Our priorities are different.

I actually LOVE big watches but only in diameter. For me the DSSD is to thick and sits too high on the wrist. I feel that the width to height ratio on this watch is out of whack and it seems awkward on my wrist. That said, I think it's an awesome looking watch and always admire on someone else's wrist.

I think the Deep Sea is over rated & screams look at me.
Just not my cup of tea. If you are like me you buy your watch to please "me" & no one else so if it smiles back you that's all that matters. |

But that is the whole point, isn't it??? Not everyone is like you, and many people buy the DeepSea for many different reasons. Just because it screams "look at me" to you, doesn't mean that everyone feels that same way.

Most people have no problem getting a $40k SUV on a 10% loan...and that includes many "low" income earners. So yeah...most adults can buy a Rolex. Afford is another question...

the vast majority of people are struggling with way bigger issues of necessity that will never allow such a purchase...so for many people here, myself included it is a wonderful symbol of accomplishment and achievement. each time i see the time on my wrist i appreciate the things that allowed that watch to be there.

If it wasn't for the DSSD, I would not have bought a Rolex. I believe all their other style are just too stale and "tired" looking. Every other watch manufacturer releases new models on a regular basis. Now the argument about it looking too big and hoping that this "fad" will die is really funny, since Rolex is finally updating other models by increasing their size.

Cool watch. In fact, I really like the watch. However, at the AD it just wouldn't sit right on my wrist (and I'm 6'3" 265). Wish it would have because it's one beautiful beast that makes a statement.
