I remembered my AD here said something along the line that Rolex is trying to mimic the Louis Vuitton practise; less number of ADs and no discounts. He did acknowledge that it would be hard for the AD to do that knowing how strong the AUD dollar is. So at least at my AD, he's still willing to provide discount for the SS model (7-10%). Still not good enough though...

I am not sure how Rolex would control this no discount policy. My AD told me mont blanc would not allow them to sell there product should they discount. That sounded like to me.

Just like all buyers are starting to see that AD's are not discounting and if they are its very little so to are all 2nd hand and grey dealers. The supply of cheap watches has gone and dealers cannot replace them at even what they sold for a few months ago on desirable models. I can tell you the forum selling prices on almost all occasions is the same or even cheaper than what dealers sell for and buy at watch shows. The best deals are right in the sales section. Don't take my word for it go to any watch show and see what watches are trading hands for amongst dealers and compare to the forum.

I'm in Sydney too and AD prices in here is just absolutely BS and rediculous, how can they have SubC RRP for $9645 and no discount, after having my Coke GMT2 for over 12 years, I've been very itchy to get either a SubC or wait for the new EXP2, but just plain too expensive these days, more than double the price of my GMT2, this is horrible ...

I was just going to post the same topic. I went to my AD today. He actually had two SS Daytonas in the back, one white and one black. He offered me them at list price since I purchased from them before. After some small talk he brought up how they won't be able to do discounts soon. He said it was something that Rolex was pushing. Places like Tourneau have held firm on pricing for years on the sport watches. He also mentioned another price increase so who knows how accurate his info is.

I reckon getting a slap looking any lower while you browse through watches at an AD isn't quite the experience most are looking for

Just ask why you should buy from them when you can walk into any Rolex dealer and get the same price.

I went into the Hour Glass a few weeks back before a brief holdiday in Fiji. Not very impressed with sales staff. Bought SDDS in Fiji at a pretty nice price and am completely happy I did.

Australian retail is starting to get what it deserves for having ripped us all off for so many years.

here's the deal... AD's give you a new brand new rolex with a rolex factory warrantee (not to mention you know all the parts are real). However, they are required to charge you retail price (no discounts!). The non authorized dealers, like online discount stores, can in fact give heafty discounts (depending on the demand of the product), however, the warrantee if there is any, does not come from rolex. it comes from the website selling it.

One trick, is to bring an old watch to an AD and do a "trade-in". If you work with them, that is a sneaky way for them to chop down the price on a rolex. Ie. the will weight the trade in, in your favor, thus purchising it for more than it is worth - in turning giving you a hidden discount.

As well,

I have heard of AD's giving like a 300 rebate... urgh

Just got back from the US Basel World 2011 Rolex event in New York. This "No Discount" rule is true. This may not happen immediately due to lack of compliance by some AD's, but over the next year or so, discounting will cease to exist.

Your friendly AD,
Kyle

Kyle, I'm taking your word on this. But, it will be interesting to see how long this lasts. I do not envy you AD's when this is enforced.

Potentially sales could be lost to brands both North & South of the Rolex price point, where a discount regardless of how small or large could clinch the sale. Good luck in the future.

I was always told that discussion of discounts over the phone is out of bounds but in the store with cash in hand . . . different game.

The 10% I got on my Milgauss netted me a whopping 3.75% after taxes. If they're going to play the no discount game, TRF will be the place to buy a Rolex.

Thank you. This will be a tough change, and what's even harder is getting all dealers on board with the idea. This change will not be instant obviously, and I don't doubt that it's still very possible to get a discount today or tomorrow, or even later in the year. But over time it will eventually happen.

You really think it'll happen? I hear stories like AD's in Canada giving up to 25% off and maybe slightly less here in the US. Going from 25% to 0% is a HUGE change.

I'm in Adelaide and we only have the one AD who sells both Rolex and Omega. No hope getting too much discount there I reckon. I will definately be looking to one of the trusted sellers here. Have to look into the import duties properly first and do my sums.

I'm waiting for the new Explorer11 to arrive and hope I get my 25% discount before Rolex starts enforcing the "no discount policy".

This only thing Australian ADs are good for is so you can try on the watches to see how it looks on your wrist before buying overseas :D

At the AD I went to there was no discount to be had by me so I went to another AD that would. If Rolex were to choose absolutely no discount across the line, then I would move to another brand.

This discount issue seems to be a dong swinging contest... This removal of a discount is a great thing actually, you get to obtain a jeweler or salesman you like because of their actual service to you, not because they let you shove your meat in their O ring just to make a sale. A Rolex is a luxury, and no discount is actually needed. A huge benefit to this is the resale value of your watch down the road! A discount is a nice thing yes, but it has rapidly become a right instead of a privilege. For some reason people feel they should be able to get a huge discount, but make the appraised value back at time of sale from consumer to consumer, or consumer to business.... How does that make any sense whatsoever. And if you really want to take Rolex to court over this "no discount" issue than go right ahead... And good luck finding a quality lawyer that will discount

Hasn't this always been Rolex's policy? Fifteen years ago there were two Rolex AD's in town, then one lost their franchise when he was caught by Rolex discounting. (On the first offense they gave them a warning, but then they caught them a second time, and pulled the line). That was 15 years ago, so how has the policy changed?

The remaining AD is careful in offering discounts, but if he knows you he will discount. I know this because I referred a friend to go there looking for a Rolex, and the AD would not even discuss a discount with him. I went back with him a week later, and he got a discount. The AD at that told us he had to be careful because Rolex sometimes checks to see if ADs are discounting.
