You had it on your wrist. What did you think of dial? Can you tell the time with a glance? With the small sub dials will you ever use the chronograph feature?

Just questions. The decision is yours.

Good luck.

Put it this way, by 2013, if ceramic daytona really comes about, the price will definitely be higher than what you have paid for the non ceramic Daytona.

There will definitely be people who would like to get the non ceramic Daytona. I think the price will hold. Just go forth and commit :D

You should never try to look ahead on possibilities and not act on something you like. New things will always come up. Buy it if you want it, enjoy it and if the new Daytona comes in Ceramic then sell the one you own and buy the new one. You may not even like the new version. Don't live life waiting for something, live in the moment. We don't know what the future holds and you can beat yourself up thinking scenarios!
I have two a TT and a black SS and love both. No regrets.

I never glance, I always end up staring anyway. Call it a combination of bad eyesight (getting old) and complete amazement and joy from one wearing one great looking watch.

Well I have slept on it. I agree with the comments made that say I should buy the watch if I love it and not think about resale and if/when a ceramic model comes about. My thoughts this morning are that after trying it on I'm not quite sure its for me. The white dial is a very pretty watch, but not sure I am in love with it, although like it a lot. Think the bracelet might scratch a bit much for my liking and I would have to baby it too much. I am still in love with my Sub, so I might just give it a miss this time. Hard decision, but guess I have to really love it to justify spending over 7 grand!
Thanks for all your helpful comments!!

It works for me, but that don't mean it works for you. I Hope you find whatever makes you happiest.

If you're not 100% sure then walk away. I was in a similar position last weekend and decided not to pull the trigger. Expense mistake if your not in love with it.

I must confess to being very excited about the prospect of a new ceramic daytona. I think it could look stunning and I would almost certainly want to buy one. If I buy one now and the value plummets then flipping it for a new model could be expensive.

I am not sure what to do. I love the look of the Daytona, but my gut is telling me perhaps the sensible think to do is wait.

What does everone think? I only have a week to make up my mind

Sounds like it's Speedy time for you.

Just curious...what are the three small dials for? Do those of you that own Daytonas utilize them?

It's for the stopwatch function - one dial has a continuous seconds hand, one counts minutes, and one counts hours. I use the stopwatch all the time on my Speedmaster, comes in handy!

Heres my take on it, The Daytona will never come down in price has anyone ever heard off rolex dropping there prices ?. If and when a new Ceramic Steel Daytona is released the waiting list will be rediculous and the chances off picking one up almost impossible .

Why dont you buy the white dial and sell your old submariner ? . 6 years ago a 116520 was £3670 now they are circa £7500

I am tempted as the Daytona is a gorgeous watch, but I am not excited about it enough to go for it! Cant quite put my finger on exactly why.

I was about the same when I had any interest in Rolex watches. I thought it was good looking piece, but it did not smile or sing at me.
Until one morning, for some reason I had an "urge" to get one, so called my AD to see what she can do for me... Then I forgot about it until she called me about 5 months later to let me know my White 116520 was ready for collection.
So my wife and I went in, tried it on and still wasn't too sure, then asked my wife to put it on her wrist. It looked good on her and I can tell she quite liked it.
After 12 months, I have to say it is one of my gave Rolex watches in my collection... Not because it is still quite difficult to come by, but it has finally sang to me

My wife wore it as her daily for most of the past 12 months though

IMO - you can't go wrong with a Daytona

You wanted one, you tracked one down at a UK AD at MSRP. (which is rarer than rocking horse s**t). It's a grail watch. I say go for it.

Some will say here that if you are having doubts and considering resale, then maybe it's not for you, but it is a lot of money. I'd say your concerns is understandable.

IMO this is a watch that resasle will keep going up, especially with the ceramic around the corner.

It's your money, along as you can afford it and the missus is not gonna chop your nuts off, get down to the AD, take 0% finance as I doubt they will discount, and enjoy the watch.

if you must get BNIB, the TT after discount is not very much more than a SS one with premium added.

maybe the real question to ask is do you want a Daytona or do you want a SS Daytona?
Very well put. Spot on.

Confession: I am a Daytona SS White face owner.

X2 Have you asked David SW for a price? If the savings is high enough you can get the watch from him and pick it up during a nice Florida vacation. Sounds like a win - win ..... well your the only one winning but that's OK because your the only one playing ....

Yes I have spoken to David SW. It would be a nice price saving and he was adamant it was safe to ship the watch to the UK avoiding getting stung by extra taxes. However I felt the risk of getting caught was not worth it...perhaps that was wrong? If I had a holiday to Florida planned would pay a visit, but not sure that's an option at the moment.

Hi Mate

If you dont want the daytona at MSRP from an AD, there are many fellow member brothers in the UK that would like one. You could PM or help these guys get one.

I have a black dial and love it to bits.

Cheers

If you want value, get a nice clean Zenith example. They're beautiful and a great piece to enjoy. Here's my pair:

I'm beginning to think it is the White dial that does not sing to me. This AD says most of the people on his list want the White dial. In fact last year they even put a black dial in the window! The black dial pics are growing on me. Would like to see one in the flesh.

I'm in the UK.

I have a black face Daytona.

I paid perhaps a hundred pounds over book (his 6 months old pre price rise price) for a bloke who's boat came in on a waiting list last year. He kept it 'til the price rise and flipped it.

Was worth the hundred quid mark up as it was still cheaper than the new list price. It went up approx 300 quid.

I wouldn't worry about scratches/marks/buffs. After a year they simply mould into one and the watch looks fine.

Look after it and it'll be OK. Go get the watch. You're talking yourself out of it. You wan't one but I suppose it's a bit of a price. I've bought lots of expensive things over the years and always pull the trigger.

Long time dead. Even with the dudes talking the Daytona down on here the SS are rock solid for resale. After perhaps two years used it will be worth list today. It's not like buying some crappy 7 grand hatch back and after 2 years it's worth 3 grand!!!

DOOOOOO IIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTTTTT!!!!!!!! and be happy..

You will probably never have the chance of buying a new one from an ad again,My advice is get the watch if you can get 0% credit even better wear it for 2 years and then sell it for original price and then you will have your money back. You have had a daytona for 2 years for free,

If you do not want it pm me with ad and i will take it.

Don't force yourself to like a watch. I think your first impression was right (they generally are). If you didn't think it was good enough for you, then don't buy it. I was in your circumstance and I bought a white dial Daytona. While I like the watch (it became a gift from my wife), I look back and think to myself, now that I own it, it's still just a watch.

Not me, I always wanted one after my first Rolex. There was nothing stopping me.

My AD told me after my first one how impossible it was to get one. Well guess what I went to another AD and even though it wasn't on display, even though they tried to sell me another watch from their safe, I held my ground and told them what I really wanted. Then they brought out my Daytona. Yes my Daytona. Hold your ground, don't let anyone else tell you what you can or can't do.

Been back to my AD today. Tried on the Daytona White dial again and still didn't sing to me. So instead I bought a Sub C and traded in my old sub! Have to say I love the ceramic bezel and bracelet is amazing!

While we were in there my wife started looking at changing her ladies datejust for something biggest. Ouch, could be expensive!

The daytona I'm told has been reserved for another TRF member so congrats to him, it just wasn't for me. I am really pleased with my new sub and I am top of the list at the AD for any ceramic SS Daytona that come out. Thanks again for all your comments.

You can't go wrong with a white face, SS Daytona----it still gets noticed more than most watches I've seen. Get it and don't look back.
