Oh such a beauty, so much better than it's current version IMO.
Wow this makes me think, back in the 90's I spent so much money on exclusive watch brands trying to be different when really I should have picked up classics like this at a steal!!

Congratulations

Why unused? A gift to someone that already had something nicer, perhaps, and now decided to trade it. Or perhaps someone inherited it unused, and traded it toward something more wanted. I've seen it happen several times earlier.

BTW: I missed out on a deal earlier this year on thirty year old NOS Tudor...

Best,

A
That's a very special watch. In my opinion my favorite Datejust ever made. I had a Date with the exact same Oyster dial and I regret selling it back in the 90s. Congratulations on that find!!

It's amazing to see all these NOS watches surfacing out all of a sudden. I wish I can get my hands on a Datejust like yours or a NOS Big Block.

wow!

What a find. Congratulations, on this classic. It's everything a Rolex is supposed to be. As to the dial, the stick dials are near perfect for doing the job, which is telling the time. As much as I like the looks of Romans or Arabics on Rolex, they don't do a better job of showing the time-- they're just pretty.

You have a great watch.

Simply gorgeous! Rolex should take advantage of the excitement people have for stuff like this and come out with a retro or "historical" line of watches.

Peter,

Thanks!

I actually posted a thread a couple of days ago on the technical forum. Rikki gave me a couple of goods comments relating to the development of oils, and what happens to them as time passes. The watch is running excellent, with great amplitude and well within COSC. One watchmaker said what you said, but three (including Rikki) elaborated further on what happens to oils and the impact, especially on the rotor pin. A good recommendation is to give it a good cleaning and lubrication, and to replace gaskets to insure water proofness. Better safe, than sorry, I'd say. Also, the very strong mainspring of the 3135 will keep the watch running although the oils are no longer as efficient as they once were. And the deterioration of the rotor pin may be rapid...

Best,

A

Thanks Dan, Engi. It is no Tudor ... but I like it anyway.

The watch is running great, well within COSC at ca +2s, and with great amplitude, but one of my friendly Geneva trained Rolex watchmakers will help me out with a professional assessment of the possible need of a cleaning and lubrication. Most likely I want to replace the gaskets to ensure waterproffness. But, the watch is running excellent out of the (old) box.

I agree. Sort of. Finding NOS is more exciting ... but quite difficult. I've stumbled upon a few, bougth two, and missed out on several.

Best,
