I'm sure this topic comes up a lot, and maybe this has been said before, but in my opinion, people who own a rolex don't mind increases as that should help the resale value of their watch. People who don't own one, like me (yet) hate price increases more than anything.

They can ask whatever they want retail. I plan on purchasing my future rolex (s) gently used here on TRF. They must do a lot of business during the holidays.

Sure hope they don't in canada. Was thinking of getting a daytona if i can haggle some more with my AD. If it goes up i might as well just give up on it.

Seems like pure greed to me on then part of Rolex. But until people slow down buying, prices will continue the upward climb. While some say two is not a collection, two is it for me, with Regards to Rolex anyway. I may have to return to enjoying other less expensive brands as I did prior to owning Rolex.

You stole the words out of my mouth! I did the same for the same reason and it would be great to see an $11K watch on my wrist but know what a good price I paid. It is a feeling of watching a traffic jam from a very high point. It is fun to realize you are not in it!

That is absolutely crazy. They are out of control with these price increases. That is 13% since May. So a SS Black Ceramic 116610 sub retails at $8400. Ridiculous to say the least. Definitely looking into other brands now.

I think they are becoming more out of reach of the common middle class people. But this will definitely give them more exclusivity I think and less market saturation. When you have a watch that will most likely cost you $10,000 out the door with taxes and all, you really think long and hard about buying it and wanting it.

Wearing a $5,000 watch is not as disturbing to the psyche as wearing a $10,000 watch -- it is just a mental thing about numbers-- that's the number,
TEN THOUSAND that really screams in the head and keeps you from purchasing, like a mental block fo somekind.

It is not just watches but everything in general is going up in price. The world has changed and is constantly changing. Not fair to blame Rolex. They will raise prices to see waht the marekt will bear. EVen crappy watches are now in the $100+ range.

The crazy part is everytime I look at other brands on different forums the topic always seems to be about price increases. I think every major watch brand including IWC, JLC, AP, Breitling and Omega has had a price increase or two in the past six months. I am almost positive I am missing brands also. Watch collecting is becoming very expensive and is getting more and more out of reach for many including myself! Might have to stick to the pre owned market.

I got mine a few weeks befor the May increase. I paid $7,000, with a MSRP of $7250. So do they intend on raising prices $1200 every year on a SUB????

judging from the price history shown here, I'd say your prediction is close...
http://www.minus4plus6.com/PriceEvolution.htm

might see the 116610 hit $9000 by the end of 2012... or even the 116710 since the price difference is now just $100 between the two models...

So, over the years (a lot of years, like 45) my wife and I accumulated 2 Rolexes each and wore them daily. Rolex has always been a little expensive but the price could be rationalized. This year, I was looking for another watch for my wife. Rolex prices were too high; then they did an 8% price increase and the prices became very unreasonable. We selected a nice Tag Heuer, the first non-Rolex we've bought. I may buy another used Rolex but I'll never buy another new one. From my perspective, Rolex prices have gone beyond high to insane. I would need a lot more money than I make today to buy Rolexes; and then, I'm not sure they're worth that.
