Karis, yes it is plat DD. It gets most of my wrist time nowaday. However, because of the weight, it is not as comfortable as my cheap citizen titanium.

Good point, Eddie. I guess it's just to maintain some kind of continuity, althought I notice on your dial, those Romans are right side up. Wonder why this inconsistency??!!

I never would of noticed the Romans being upside down either.

I wore the Champagne dial last night to dinner at Peter Lugers in Brooklyn, the watch gets respect. I saw lots of Subs and DJ’s. Would you believe the loudest most disrespectful person in the restaurant was wearing a fake Daytona? Worst copy I’ve ever seen, guy seemed that he was entertaining out of town guests who didn’t know any better.
He must have worked as a cold caller some where and was trying to dazzle, on how many times he had been to Luger’s I was going to tell him to keep it down but my wife made me keep quiet, the classic was when the bill came he tried to pay using a discover credit card. My point being using a discover card is funny in it’self but at lugers they only take cash or a Lugers credit card, his guests had to go find an ATM while he sat there with is fake Daytona attempting to regain his pride.

Fakers are fakers all around.

Ok, I have been convinced by this forum to go with the white face with Romans! That is the good news. The bad news is for that trade its going to costs me 3K more. I paid 8K for mine private sale, I have a jeweler friend who does business with Fairchild in TX (any reviews on these guys?) who will trade for mine. Is it worth being into it for 11K? Well not really 11K I’m already in for 8, it’s a 3K decision at this point.

It depends - what you're trading for. Is the model you'd get newer than the one you'd hand off? I'd hope so for $3k more!

I bought my Day-Date 118238 new with the white dial and roman markers. Contrary to conventional wisdom, I found the white dial kind of hard to read after a while. I noticed that unless I was looking at it straight on, the gold romans had a tendency to wash out on the white dial in light; especially with the impact of the reflective crystal. I had always preferred champagne dials, so I decided to change. I went with a light champagne with romans (see photo). In that configuration, the gold romans are filled with black enamel (?) and this gives the markers great contrast and legibility. Now, I have the luminova bar index champagne dial on order at RSC Tokyo. Truth be told, I have always preferred the classic champagne stick look, and after going full circle, I am heading that way finally (albeit the new champagne dial with luminova bar markers as opposed to the old non-luminova stick markers) (though I could in the end decide to go witht he older stick marker dial).

ah i cant decide .... legibility wise obviously the white one wins over the champagne. but the champagne one probably has more texture. judging by the picture of champagne dial above, i prefer the champagne one

I have a white with romans. I do like the look. My wife has a datejust with a champagne dial which I like but on a YG I think it blends in too much.

My vote goes to the white dial with the stick hour markers. The reason I say that is because I always want my watches to have some sort of luminous hour markers and hands. Sometimes I want to look at my watch when I drive home at night and stuff like that. Its just generally more convenient with lume.

I also say a white dial because all YG Day Dates look better with a white dial I think. The light champagne dial looks nice too.

You could wear a Timex to Peter Luger's and get the same respect. Absolutely my favorite steakhouse of anywhere we've been in the world, but I wouldn't say that the atmosphere is consistent with purveyors of fine horology!!! The drunken guys next to us had to be escorted to an ATM the night we were there as well, and made quite an issue out of not having their credit cards honored. Almost couldn't hear our steaks sizzle over all the yelling!

Uh, I'd go with champagne, but I like the maxi dials.

I've worked in Brooklyn for 7 years now and I still haven't eaten at Peter Lugers. It's on my "To-Do" list.
