Wow! in that case I'm going to demand my money back for the SD and 14060M. How dare they sell me a non-Rolex for that kind of money.

The Submariner is beautiful, simple, classic, cleam]\n and about as understated as a Rolex professional model can be,

Terrific photo Joel
The model appeals to me far more that the 16610. The 14060M is the most elegant and original of the diver range IMHO. |

Thanks for the info. I will be visiting my local AD this weekend to try them on and see which I like, although I don't think I will be making the purchase at that time (but hopefully soon)!

Hard to argue with the 'less is more' theory of elegance. I've always subscribed to that.
However, I did cave-in slightly to the practical/bling arguments by going with the 16610. With it, I can readily see the date and it comes with the signature Cyclops so I'm reminded I'm wearing something special.

Date or no Date isn't the only question
I'm a newby, so I'll do my first post with the ultimate of heresies....
I just bought a sub date after considering the gmt black on black model. I preferred the heavier crown and so forth. Old school is perfect for this watch as it's my daily wear watch. I would have purchased a Sea Dweller except the thicker case sets too high for me. My heretical desire; get the sub refitted with a crystal that doesn't have the magnifier, sort of like a sea dweller in sub's clothing. Tell me I'm crazy or better yet let me know if anyone has ever done this conversion and where can I get it done. This watch will never be resold, so that's not an issue for me.... thanks! |

I've read elsewhere that the cyclops is a glued on piece and can actually be removed. There is no need for refitting. Just don't ask me how.

hear hear...I need the date and the cyclops just makes it better.
I would go crazy without the date function..but it is your choice.

First of all: BIG welcome to TRF! As "Henry T" says, the cyclops is in fact GLUED ON! So if you want the look you desire, go to an AD and have it snapped of

"Crazy" says "thanks for the replies"
Maybe I'll just get therapy instead....BTW, my sub spent more than 20 hours in the ocean during a recent week long visit to Maui and cleaned up everyday just like nothing had happened. What a watch!!!!
thanks for the sporting responses, great forum! Has anyone seen (as in held in their hand) the new ceramic bezel GMT? thx |

Bought a ND several months ago, kinda wish I bought the date Sub for most of the reasons listed above.
- I always find my self looikng for the date - decreased resale value, compared to the date sub |

I had the same debate - went with the no-date. I really like the clean, uncluttered look. I had a watch for years that showed the date and I was forever forgetting to advance it when needed. It was not very useful to me. If I need the date I look at my cel.
Hope that helps! |
