I have a Vermouth atomizer that will mist the glass with a half spray of dry Vermouth for my friends that insist on it, I on the other hand chill 4 oz. of Stolichnaya over crushed ice, shake vigorously for 2 minutes and strain. Two tomolives and Bob's your uncle!

Well, This spring while at daughters cheerleading competition in Niagara Falls, we found a nice bar,
I think I tried them all in the few days we were there.

Funny, no one here has mentioned anchovy stuffed olives. They are absolutely delicious and add a very nice flavor to the martini. I, too, like them dirty and drizzle a bit of the olive juice into the martini.

If you have a "Total Wine" in your area, they are an excellent source for some off brands that are very good. They sell Marlowe's gin which I find equal to Tangueray or Beefeaters but less expensive. They also sell Veil Vodka which, again, is cheaper than grey goose but similar taste and texture.

Bombay Sapphire with Noilly Pratt. 5:1 as God intended.

Then I go for options depending upon mood:

1. As is.
2. Two drops lemon juice when I want clean and bright.
3. Two drops olive oil when I want the olive essence.
4. A couple cocktail onions to convert it to a Gibson.

I don't know what vodka and vermouth is (probably a perfectly fine drink for those who like them), but its not a Martini. Nothing is more irritating that ordering a Martini and being asked, "what kind of vodka?"

To paraphrase Hank Hill, when someone asks for a "vodka Martini" (sic), "we politely but firmly ask them to leave our home."

Actually a Gibson (vodka Gibson) which still sounds cool.

Gimlet is gin and lime juice. I had to look it up after Betty Draper ordered one in Mad Men.

Thanks for the correction.

I was on a cruise last year on Princess and they had a martini they called "Chairman of the Board" which had both Vodka and Gin and something else that I can't remember to cut the bite just a bit. Those were way too easy to drink.

Had a few Gibsons at a friends house last night and played Rock Band. I'll remember not to do that on a work night next time.

Just plain and simple lightly dirty martini with good premium vodka. After the week I've had I need a few. Some blue cheese is nice every now and again, but it is strong, so only infrequently.

This thread got me drinking Martinis on a regular basis over the past few months. Bombay Sapphire mixed 5:1 with vermouth is how I typically make it. I have been using "Martini" brand vermouth, but did a blind taste test with Noilly Prat tonight, and the Noilly Prat won hands down.

I typically prefer two pimento stuffed olives, but sometimes exchange for cocktail onions for a Gibson.

I have also recently tried Hendricks gin, and slightly prefer it over Bombay Sapphire, but it's not always available.

Having one as I type this. Mmmmmmm.

I still stick by my recommendation for bombay sapphire martinis, shaken, but I want to talk about the olives.

Personally, I prefer either almond-stuffed or blue cheese-stuffed in my martini. 2 are good, 3 is grand.

Non-gin martinis, fruity-tinis, coffee-tinis, and chocolate-tinis are the product of and purview of female clientele IMHO.

plain green vermouth soaked olives for me, I don't want anything to over-power the gin.

I love a good martini. I like mine room temperature, and I'm not picky about the gin I use. Normally it's Beefeater with a splash of dry vermouth. I like olives, but not the way they make the last few sips taste, so I normally eat'em right away. And I never use a cocktail/martini glass...they just seem silly to me.
