Welcome. I would get it serviced, but leave the patina. No polish. Watch looks great.

Thanks guys. Well I figured out why I cannot find anything definitive about this watch. It must have been destroyed or something at somepoint. You can see it is not the correct bracelett, and some further reading showed me this:

Exchange cases or re-cased movements.

Rolex does produce cases specifically to re-case movements where the case has become damaged or unusable. Up until recently the exchange cases started with 44xxxxx. It is believed that those numbers have been used and later re-case numbers begin with 47xxxxx.

The Serial Number can be found under the bracelet, stamped against the case at 6 o'clock.

Serial:

4487261

Great looking watch. I'm curious to know how much the guy owed you when he gave you that watch-- but that's me thinking out loud too.

I think the most important thing is: can the GMT function tell you what time it is on the west coast right now? Gotta get ready for the game!

Congrats, great first Rolex inspite of being a little bit of a mystery configuration.

A very worthy model and keeper imho.

Thanks guys! I guess the fact that it is a mystery watch does make it special, maybe not so much unique, as their were many replacement cases made. But just the sheer fact that it got damaged so badly that it needed a new everything from the case- out, and it still lives makes it special

But still, a piece of me wants one like the rest of you have, one where its roots can be traced. On the other hand, its not very easy to find this model is it? It looks like if I invested a little, the rewards could be great.. But at the same time I dont want to sell it lol, unless someone offered me closer to 10k

Then I would put a downpayment on a house

I cant stand renting.

I trust the poster. But, I could be completely wrong, that the picture of the left side of the case looks unusual to me. The case appears larger and flatter then mine and other 16750's I'm used to seeing. I don't know, but it appears to me a Franken 16750 / 167xx.

Welcome to TRF ! nice watch
It has a newer service dial and hands that are Luminova rather than tritium;) the 'swiss' only on the dial tell us this. I reckon the date wheel has been changed too ( by rolex)
The band is newer too from 2005 and i guess that is when the dial and hands etc would have been changed too.
I woudl get it serviced and enjoy
Welcoem again

Best $1200 you ever collected. Congratz. Get it serviced by a trusted watchmaker or an RSC.

Welcome to TRF!

Although it might not be completely original, it's still a brilliant watch. Enjoy it!

Funny how this guy does everything we ask Noob's to do and we get suspicious! Either we're either all cynical New Yorkers or we have a bunch or old, grumpy curmudgeons on here...
