Great photo! It's tough - I think of the YM differently than I do the Sub and other sports models. It's definitely a stealthy watch...and I don't see too many in the 'wild'. I guess I think of it as a 'bling' sports model, if that makes sense.

I love my YM
The ss/plat model to me is THE ONE. I like the TT's too, though. I don't think it's a 'financial manager's watch'. I've seen a couple in the wild, usually on casual young men's wrists. I am definitely casual. The YM is cool for a few reasons:
1. Jocke takes amazing pics of them. :) 2.) The YM is the first Rolex to use the Maxi dial. Now that the rest of the Sport models will likely follow suit, the YM can claim it's stake in Rolex-first history. 3. The bezel is a design milestone--Omega copied it on the Seamaster Non-AC, and even the Planet Ocean's bezel, while not plat or gold, shares a resemblance in the style of numbers. Also design wise, it combines the breathtakingly beautiful Daytona CASE with the dial of the Sub, creating a best of both worlds Rolex. I like an uncomplicated watch, but love the Daytona case. Home run. 4. In SS/plat, It's stealth. Not too many sport Rolexes are stealth. I LOVE that it is not everyone else's choice! It is expensive, relative to an SS Sub, but the watch feels decidedly more substantial in all ways. It has heft. (no slight against the Sub, of course.) Those are my thoughts. |

Yachtmaster
Shortly before my 10th anniversary, 6 years ago, I was bitten by the "gotta have an expensive watch" bug. I started looking at Rolex's offerings, but the datejust didn't do it for me at all (I know I'm in a very small minority). I liked the look (and heft) of a sports watch, and looked into the Yachtmaster because it was the only "professional" model that Rolex made for women. I just fell in love with the women's SS/platinum Yachtmaster. I wanted a watch that I could wear with casual, professional, or formal attire. I also wanted something that looked "timeless," as I knew it would be very unlikely that I would buy another such expensive watch again. I told my husband that's the one I wanted for our anniversary, so we plunked down two months' house payments in cash (yikes!) and bought the SS/platinum model. I don't regret it for a moment, as I wear the watch every day, and enjoy it every time I look at it. While I see datejusts and Subs all of the time, I haven't yet come across another Yachtmaster. In fact, the only other Yachtmaster I've seen was in a promotional photo of "Dr. Phil."

Hey, Jocke! What the heck are you watching on the telly?
The text on the tv says (translated from Swedish): "Mum is one of the judges! How is it gonna look if you win?!" Seriously! That is what the text says!

The best description I've ever read about the Yacht-Master, "A beautiful piece of jewelery that also happens to tell the time."

I was curious--why isn't the YM more popular? Is it mostly because it is more expensive than the Subs, etc., people don't find it to be as attractive, it's relatively new, etc.?

The TT blue YM is the Rolex I bought first and I absolutely love the watch. The gold bezel gives it a dresier look and the thinner case makes it easier to wear with a suit. The case also has a more roundish contour than the rest of the sports and helps it to develop, what some may consider, a more comfortable fit.
It has not left my wrist for the entire last year except for the last three weeks when the TT GMT-IIC arrived. New watch syndrome I suppose... |

I think they are gorgeous... people excitedly speculate about the Submariner getting the maxi dial, a bezel made out of exotic materials, and maybe even some red lettering on the dial. Well, check out the Yachtmaster! I just hope the new YM II doesn't ruin the name for the original...
