Whoa, whoa, whoa... can cooler heads prevail here? I've been here only a few months now and seen how these arguments get completely blown out of proportion. Once you fellas settle down and think it over it's only a place for enthusiests to talk about watches.

Nick, your opinion of us not knowing how to use a loupe as a blanket statement may be true in my point (I had no idea what a loupe was a few years ago). But some people like JJ (and others) that do know how to use one may have been taken aback and thought it may have been snobbish.

In JJ's case it may have been a case of Sheep Deprevation... umm... I mean Sleep Deprevation (I'm joking )

There's been a couple of high profile members falling on swords lately making a big production of leaving. This may not be one of the bigger production jobs but it is one none the less. Once you say you're leaving it makes it hard to come back when you think it over and see how foolish the argument was. Nick, if you are going to leave, then leave. I thoroughly enjoyed reading your informative posts. Hate to see it end over such a paultry reason as being able to or not being able to use a Loupe...

P.S. For those now knowing how to use a loupe I Yahoo Searched "how to loupe" and found 10+ pages on directions.

Mate,

couple weeks ago you've called me a bugger. I did not took it seriousely, but this time I had enough. Calling me a smartass watchmaker is slightly over the top.

I am not paid to post here and I am not seeking publicity.
By the time you read this post I will be unsubscribed and gone from Rolex forum forever. No hard feelings my friend, the life will go on. Happy collecting and take care.

Nick, you called JJ a clown for using a loupe, he called you a smartass watchmaker. Two wrongs don't make a right, but if you wanna think you're big enough to dish it out, you'd jolly well better grow up and be big enough to take what's returned. The disrespectful tone was set by you in the first place with obnoxious comments like "if you want to make a clown of yourself", so you've got no place bleating now.

I've had enough of cleaning up your mess everytime you go over the top with your keyboard. Just a little over a week ago I tried talking to you nicely about this in private, but apparently that was a waste of my time, so no more Mr Nice Guy. If you want to start something, don't go throwing your toys out of the pram when you get a taste of your own medicine.

Nick, I have observed that you can dish it out, but you can't take it in return.

My only thought is -- Don't let the door hit you in the a** on the way out.

I have some specks on the dial of my DD. They are not on the original pix I took when I bought it. When I look at them with a 15x loupe I can clearly see that they are flecks of gold. I'm going to wait until I can see more of them and melt them down for a few $$$'s.
I will put the DD on my microscope at 100x and post a pix. I should use the microscope for my AD inspections and why not, I am paying the dollars for Rolex 'quality'.

Inspected a DJ with a loupe yesterday, if I would not have done that I probably would have bought a fake one ... simple as that, everything was scary perfect on the dial except the crown was off centered to the 12 o'clock.

Probably you didn't use the loupe right! It is rocket science to use a loupe, as Nick states!

C'mon! Look again! There MUST be a flaw!

Scratch on the bezel or bracelet is not really a big deal to me, as I am going to put those on myself withing a couple weeks of wearing. But, the Dial. That is a different matter. There is only one way for a scratch, blemish, lint, etc.. to be there and that is through poor QC.

Your way, my way. Pick up the phone, tell my favorite saleslady, who is tre hottie btw, what I am looking for. She knows all the numbers for Panerai and some Rolex too I think. Get a guess on timeframe for arrival or shipping. She overnights the watch to a friend in a neighbor state, I overnight a check. Two days later I get the watch and swear this one I will keep for a long time.

Yeah, have worn it for all but couple days since I got it. This one has more than a little something going for it. I had a trade set up for the Big Bang that I wanted, and backed out. I used to own the YM with a Daytona clasp, that was a cool watch. This one is that good and a ton better.

If you feel like that about watches, why not make a hobby out of buying and selling watches, one at a time, steadily growing and eventually you can buy the one you want to keep from the small profits you make, start with Seiko for instance?
Every watch has a buyer ...

You're entitled to your opinion, Otto. From my perspective, JJ is not the first member here to get offended by Nick's posts, even as recently as a fortnight ago, and I've had to clean up one mess too many.

If Nick intended to be funny, well and good. Comedians take people getting their noses out of joint as part and parcel of the game because they understand that a joke is often at someone's expense, so he needs to take a page out of their book and deal with it like an adult instead of chucking a hissy fit.

Fair enough. I haven't noticed Nick much before, so maybe you're right. I just didn't see anything really offensive from Nick in that particular exchange.

JJ was posting in jest but Nick sees that as his job, so he cannot "lay down his arms" for the sake of the joke. He does take it seriously! That right there limits his sense of humor in the subject I think, just like if you shop for cars you kick the tires, then any car salesman will jibe you about doing that.

ANYWAY..... I have been here about a year and see folks come and go and life goes on. I got all bent out of shape when we lost C.J. and Amanda but I'm relaxing more now. The forums evolve and one day JJ may even call it quits. Who knows.

This is one RED HOT thread. I need to get a Red Bull with lots of ice, the Alexander McCall Smith novel I'm reading and a nice Ashton Cabinet, take 'em out on the patio and kick back.

And for good measure I'm wearing my white Daytona.

Have a great weekend, all of you! Larry.

Bit different in the USA:

1. Park your car at the mall lot along with the 5,000 other cars.

2. Walk into the climate-controlled mall and past all the GAP, Spencer's Gifts, E&B Games, and other chain stores that inhabit every mall in the USA.

3. Grab a Cinnabon and coffee.

4. Look up the ADs (yes, that's plural!) in the Mall.

5. Wander into one of the ADs and get cinnamon and sugar all over the display case while telling the salesperson that the other AD in the mall has better prices (except if it's Tourneau, they'll know you're lying!).

6. Drool over the dozens of watches in the case and narrow in on the one you really want and ask to see it. Wipe your hands PLEASE!

7. Ignore the salesperson rushing you because she wants the commission from the diamond ring the other person is going to buy on the spot and you're wasting her time.

7. Plead for a discount - any discount.

8. Whip out your credit card and pay for it.

9. Have them size it (assuming they have the tools to do it).

10. Have them fill in the warranty paper (the watch probably has been there for 2 years already)

11. Take the watch home and check for any flaws.
