It is so weird sometimes. I have been a nurse for 18 years and I have taken all sorts of life support and trauma classes over the years. And I have taught Ped Adv Life Support.

Once you work in an ER, especially, you learn to turn off your emotions and function on your training and adrenaline.

I have had many situations over the years that I had to do things normal people wouldn't think about. I have actually inserted an intraosseous (needle in the bone of the leg for an IV) into an infant. I have intubated an adult human. I can't count how many codes I was involved in. I have helped a woman who was hit in the street at Mardi Gras, with a skull fracture. One of my dogs stopped breathing and I did rescue breaths until we got to the vet. So CPR on a lizard wasn't even a thought.

I think, no matter if it was human or animal, I would just automatically react in an emergency to someone choking or not breathing. It is almost impossible after all this time to stop. It is like being programed. It is really weird when it kicks in. You just shut everything out and start counting and repeating the pattern for whatever emergency you are in.

Thank goodness, I hope it saves someone else down the road!!!
