I bought the same watch about a month ago. I don't care for Subs or blue, but the price was right, so I jumped in. I've only worn it twice, and decided it was way out of character for me. I was wanting a black & black TT GMT ceramic also. Still planning on the GMT part, but think I'll dumb it down a little & go SS when the time comes.

For me there is no way I would sell your TT blue sub since you still love that watch. I have a " F" 2004 TT blue and I love it. Wear another watch to work. The new SUB C's are not the same. I just saw my watch same year go up $1300 more then I paid for it 6 months ago. People are going to want this one if they don't like the new wide lugs. The blue dial is a nicer sade of blue which color sfits too.

I love the blue Sub and yes, i consider it "flashy". And you might lose an occasional sale because a potential client is intimidated by your implied success because you are wearing an expensive watch.

I worked as an engineer for 30 years and most of us wore digital casios. Of course the marketing and sales people usually wore fancier watches. Very few of the engineers ever noticed or commented on my watch. Many of the sales / marketing people did. Just the nature of the beast... :)

My opinion is wear it. It's a beautiful watch!!!

How about brushing the polished center links for a more stealth look?

I agree with those above who say keep the TT Sub, wear it when you feel the audience and situation permit, and get a nice but inexpensive Seiko or other watch for when you feel the TT Sub is too much. There are plenty of perfectly presentable watches from Seiko and others for $200 or less.

Maybe in the future, when funds permit, you can also get a nice SS Rolex for everyday wear.

If it were me I'd prefer this to letting the TT Sub go . . . such a beautiful watch and I would hate to let it go.

The watch is flashy for my taste and from a design point-of-view I don't like mixed gold/silver colours combinations.

However, vive-la-difference!.... it would be a boring world if we all liked the same thing. Wear the watch you like - period.

I know it is ultimately a personal decision, but maybe other TRF members have experienced this.

For about a year now I have owned a Gorgeous!!! Rolex Sub TT Blue year 2006 (no lug holes, gold through clasp). This is my first and only Rolex.
Recently I have been thinking about selling it to buy another Rolex a little less "FLASHY". NOTE: In a perfect world I would just keep the TT Blue and buy a new one, but funds aren't there.

REASON: The TT Blue made me a fan instantly, but I work in sales and I am out visiting customers all day long. I have caught clients several times just staring at the sparkling gold and blue…and quite frankly it is somewhat distracting and sometimes I feel like the clients might think I am "showing off". Don't get me wrong, I drool every time I wear my Bluesy, but I feel it is getting a little more attention than it should.

I am considering selling it and buy an SS Sub or SS GMT (Pepsi, Coke or Black).

Am I going crazy here?

Call me.

I have a good friend who experienced something similar with this particular model. Was an aspirational purchase for him, but found the attention a bit much. Agree with earlier post..there is something that really draws the eye to that watch. Easy to handle...wear when appropriate, and get yourself a 214270 to fly under the radar!

Don't sell it. It is a beautiful watch that is somewhat rare, and you will regret it later. Get another watch to wear until you can get a stainless sub to wear when you're not wearing this one. Or just tell anyone who asks that you bought it in Hong Kong (wink). They will assume it's fake without you saying that!

I don't wear any of my Rolex watches to work. I don't even wear any of my Japanese Chronographs. I wear the same simple black dial Swiss Army 38mm Titanium Summit XLT every day http://www.princetonwatches.com/shop/24037.asp. I work in manufacturing, where the Director wears a Claiborne, and the CEO wears a Movodo. The parking lot is full of luxury cars that drop $10K in value the 1st year, driven by people with this month's best smart phone. These same people wouldn't understand the joy of owning a fine timepiece, and I don't want to explain it to them. If they were lucky, maybe they might have caught a glimpse of the diamond dial 2 tone Datejust peeking out of my suit sleeve at the Holiday party.

My wife is lucky in that she works in sales of very expensive industrial equipment. She often meets with high level clients who are wearing fine timepieces, including Rolex. Her Rolex is a part of the professional business dress code, and serves as a symbol of success, not excess.

I had a U serial 16613 and absolutely loved it. It did get the most attention out of all my previously owned Rollies however I have come to grasp that most people could care less whats on my wrist (Even my superior Officers.)

I ended up flipping it not because it was flashy....i just prefer SEL and an engraved rehaunt and my budget could only afford an M serial Sub. With that said, I am seriously eyeballing a few others (GMT IIc, Milgauss, and the Explorer II.)

GL with you decision. If you choose to keep the bluesy I am sure it will not disappoint you and if you flip it for a SS model the versatility will please you as well.

I too am in sales and I find that people want to do business with other successful people. Be comfortable with it as it is a sign of your success. Enjoy it - it's a beautiful piece that you may regret parting with.

The majority think that the best call is to get a cheaper watch to go on sales meetings....I guess I wasn't too clear when I wrote the original post: I am in the marketing services sales and consultation business. I meet with business owners and sales directors to help them grow their business.

I need a luxury watch, that's why I purchased this Rolex. I just GENUINELY didn't know it was going to get as much attention as is it getting. I am by no means overly conscious about it, but it is evident....most of the time I am standing giving out a powerpoint presentation or sitting by a conference table ...they just stare.

At the same time I don't want to wear a Casio or Timex and have these business owners think "he can't event afford a $500 watch and wants to help me grow my business". But then, I don't want to be the guy that wants to appear what I am not by wearing "a super flashy watch".

AGAIN, CALL ME CRAZY....I guess some of you would understand.

I will probably do some soul searching this week and think wether to get an SS or not.

THANKS A LOT, REALLY, for the feedback. Great Community of Watch Enthusiasts... I asked the question to my wife yesterday and she thought I was nuts...

Now knowing the whole story I would say you have nothing to worry about. If I were a business owner and I were coming to you for consultation, I'd figure you must be doing something right if you've got a two tone sub strapped to you wrist.

Sounds like an Air-King might be a good choice if you can get over the 34mm case. It doesn't look flashy, but if someone looks hard enough, they will know it is a Rolex.
The Explorer is also a good pick, and is available in 36mm and 39mm, but with no choice of dials other than black. These are the stealth models in the Rolex line, and both dress-up and down equally well.

I am sure there are lots of good opinions listed above but here is my read:

- The TT 16613 "bluesy" is the flashiest of the TT sport watches with that "sea of blue"
- I would reccommend the TT 16613 black dial/bezel as a more conservative alternative
- If you want to wear a Rolex on sales calls, a SS/SS date just would be the most stealth choice.
- As mentioned above, a nice conservative Swiss Army watch would be a good stand in for the Rolex.

Personally, I do not think that it matters so much that it is a Rolex as that it is a "flashy" watch and the bluesy is certainly one of the flashiest in the Rolex stable. I wore either a 14k gold concord dress watch or my first Rolex, a SS 16610 sub with my suit/tie.

A nice watch implies good taste, value orientation and success. A flashy watch screams "look at what i have on my wrist" IMHO.

I know the feeling. If I'm meeting with a potential client and my GMT pops out, I might feel a little awkward depending on the circumstances. Why not keep your lovely TT and buy a much cheaper 'practical' watch for work (not too cheap, not too expensive).

Buy an Oakley Watch Vault - carry a less expensive watch in it so you have both watches at all times. When you go into a meeting with a client you can put on your other watch and tuck the Sub safely into the vault.

You will definitely regret selling it! But that gives you a chance at the new blue SubC! Get another Rolex SS watch that is not too flashy and you are good to go!

I would keep it since you like it so much and wear a cheaper non-Rolex. Even an SS Sub will attract attention on a sales call. Get a nice Seiko "5". a Citizen Eco-Drive, or other non-Rolex.

That's a beautiful watch, I would keep it. Maybe you can buy something more common to work in. A SS Sub would be nice or if you want to save a few bucks "Google" the Seiko Velatura SNAA91 Blue Dial
