Its a Ref 3940. A perpetual calendar (day, date month, leap year, phases of moon) and a non-independently adjustable 24 hour indication (slaved to the 12-hour display, in other words)

The 3940 is without question one of Patek's most elegant perpetual calendars, and was produced in all colors of gold, as well as a platinum version. The PP 240Q is a lovely self-winding movement that's been around long enough to have a track record of solid functionality, too--as haute horlogerie mechanisms go. Has been discontinued and the related 5140 has taken its place; it uses the same movement (and dial indications) and has a similar style, but is a bit larger in diameter.

Well, not really. The YMII caters to a very specific crowd. It's a hefty sport watch with a very specific countdown function.

The SKD, like the DD, is a dress watch with a function that applies to businessmen. The main difference is the SKD adds complication. I think a lot of people will be upgrading their DDs to SKDs.

As for whether Rolex makes it their flagship, we'll have to wait and see. No one defines such a thing but them (in their marketing and PR).

I'm betting they will.

Well, if the Day-Date epitomises classic Rolex, then the Sky-Dweller is all about what modern Rolex is capable of. It's a big injection of design flair and engineering know-how, and has, in my opinion, reinvigorated a brand that has been playing it safe for far too long. More of the same please, Rolex

I would still have around 10 Grand to either buy another GMT or Travel.
Agree. if my lifestyle were desk-bound, this PP would be it.

Excellent point, Chris. If a company rests on their laurels for too long, things get stale and boring. I commend Rolex for thinking outside of the box, taking chances and mixing it up a little bit. Many may not like the new model, but at least they are moving in the right direction!

Doesn't this one list for $91K USD?

I think it's reading June, first year in the four year leap-year cycle.

i'll never like the sky-dweller regardless of price. just not an attractive watch and doesn't keep with rolex and its traditional styling...
