Best post yet, Grady.

Five years from now, young dudes will still be buying vintage Rolex & Tudor watches......go into "Wanna Buy a Watch" on Melrose Ave. in L.A., young guys buying vintage, look at the fashion mags....."Madmen" show driving up the popularity of vintage.....I'd much rather have a Newman daytona than all the new ones.

So does this mean that we are at the beginning of calling the 14060m a vintage watch?

Kind of sounds a like that, depends on you perspective. Maybe nostalgic is a fast way.

I have always considered mine as a modern-vintage. Since it is no longer made, it now has to be vintage. I don't have a problem with that. New is new... but these lug-holes will live on forever.

What do you think this will do to values of 14060s? I will assume they are going to be headed slightly North in the near future. Question is, how much?

The spring-bar ends seat further into the lugs with lug holes, thus rendering a more secure fit. The deeper in they go, the less likely they are to pull out. They also allow the bracelet to be removed with something as simple as a straightened paper clip, or a tooth pick, so you don't need a specialized spring-bar tool.

the lugholes are a very simple solution to bracelet removal, doing away with them imho was a step backwards in development.

the tiny fork tool required for bracelet removal without lugholes, invariably scratches the back lugs of the watch (i've had RSC offer this service for me as well... ie scratching the back of my watch)

simply they were removed imo for selfish reasons (business) by rolex... to make proprietary bracelets & to exclude many aftermarket options....

viva la lughole

Getting rid of the holes
Rolex got rid of holes because they know I can not see very well
So when I want to see a serial number I am poking 2-3 times around the hole
and by the time i get to press the pin I have scratched the case in 2 - 3 places
For me this was a blessing.

My local AD had 3 14060Ms sitting in with all the Ceramic Subs.

Saleswoman said I was the first to inquire about them in about 6 months.

They were out of stock on the SS Sub and GMT II.

How every much we may not like it, catering to the bling crown is big business.

What is it with these lug holes. I'll take the looks of vintage stuff over modern any day of the week when we are talking about cases/dials etc. But they are just holes, surely the cleaner look without is better. Surely these holes are just gonna collect grit and dirt.

So you can get the strap out easier. Just get the right tool for a couple bucks and Voilą. Just as easy.

Bah humbug, with lug holes I can remove straps & bracelets w/ no chance of scratches & I can use a toothpick or paper clip, no need for specialized tools.
And as far as grit accumulating, none, nada........
