Don't worry, you've done the right thing, if you want the sporty then get it, should you decide to sell it in a year or two then what the hell?. I've been riding for 20 + years everyday and would never tell someone not to ride, just make sure you do it sensibly.

A Daytona is a lovely watch and one I must own one day. however it is a watch, there are millions of them about and you can get one at anytime. Enjoy the bike

Oh and as for the ones that say they are dangerous, they are the same as a gun, it all depends who is in control

Asking this on a watch site is going to get biased answers. Go ask on Harley forum and see what happens. Get what YOU want.

Good on you.

It is not like most of us need another Rolex watch really.

I'm thinking of skipping my next watch and get back into photography, pick up a Nikon D800 with some top shelf lenses.

Let's face it, obsessing about watches and visiting TRF 10 times per day isn't exactly a balanced life style! ;-)

Get a Daytona and a used bike. Scratch both itches so you can pick up the Bitc....

I was waiting for this and am surprised it didn't show sooner.

Being the survivor of a motorcycle accident where, while sliding on my stomach with a car coming end over end and thinking, "This isn't going to hurt a bit", I don't do motorcycles anymore.

That's like saying free falling isn't dangerous because people have died from going hiking (well not exactly the same ).

Motorbikes are about 30 times more likely to kill you per mile (UK statistics). Doctors call them "donor cycles".

I would get the watch (even though not a big fan of the daytona) mainly because the bike you have chosen seems to be the "diamond encrusted sea dweller" of the bike world based on other responses to the thread.

In the end get what makes you happiest but remember the Daytona will far outlast the bike and will get far more use for your 10k. Also and this is based again on responses to the thread, will apparently get you mocked far less

Wow, how is the 883 not a "mans" bike?? I dont have one, but have been to many 1/2 mile dirt track races and they scream power (883 class). The bike is a starter platform for a rocket ship that you can throw into turns at 100+ w/ a nice power slide. However, I'm getting older and understand the safety issue, which is why I only ride trails now. Both are great hobbies and you'll spend a lot on either... try the bike and take the loss if it's not for you, gotta try it to know!

do not get the 883 or even a 1200 sporty..
You will be tired of it in a year.
Buy a big H-D...
Better yet. Buy an Ultra and travel on it..

Between the two for you to choose.. I would get the Daytona.

funny paid $16,500 for a new bmw r1150rt in 03' - maybe the cost of two datona's back then. Looking to sell that motorcycle now with only 6,000 miles on it and might have enough to buy one new sub. Buy the watch.

I like the Daytona but I think you are making the right decision. If it's what you enjoy, then go for it. As with our watches, other people's opinions don't really matter, you will be the one enjoying it!

Fan of both, but I'd go for a motorcycle over a watch.

What a load of tosh I know quite a few doctors and surgeons who ride them and have done for years.

I've been riding since I was 11, almost everyday and I'm know 48, I've even spent years looking for those 'Dangerous roads' but still haven't found any. Oh the un-educated do make me laugh

I love my Rolex, but I love my bikes just as much

Hey Rani, I'll offer my 2 cents as well. I think the Iron is a good looking bike personally but if you're a taller fellow, then it may not be the best choice.

I'm 6 feet tall, 210 pounds and when I sat on one, I felt like a monkey f#%king a football. It was just plain too small, not to mention that it has mid-controls which makes the bike feel even more cramped.

If you found it was a good size for you, then I'd say go for it. Otherwise, consider looking at the Sportster 48 which is a mighty cool looking bike too.

Whatever you decide on, keep the rubber side down and don't worry about all the jerks calling it a girl's bike. Ride what you like and enjoy. :D

Buy a big H-D...

If you are like most guys, you will tire of the bike in short order, especially if you ride with others. The peanut tank is too small, the bike itself is not good for more than a solo rider... really does not do much well. Same with the 1200.

You would be better served getting a bigger Harley, if you want a Harley, in my experience.

I think you can do much better for your money in terms of bikes. I'm with the other guys... that's not a nice Harley. In the $10k range, you can get a very sweet Triumph (a very nice Bonneville is well under 10k, and way better than an 883 HD), which will have the classic "standard" look you like.

http://www.triumphmotorcycles.com/

Here's a Triumph Rocket III Roadster in Flat Black... I think it has the look you want. (oh, and it's bad to the bone at over 2000cc... maybe a little much to handle for your first bike)

One more thing to add... There are so many nice used bikes out there that if you decide on the Iron Sporty, you could likely pick one up used and save a lot of $$$.

I may be in the minority on this one, but I don't always think bigger is always better in bikes. A smaller bike is easier to maneuver in the city, so if you plan on just tooling around town, you don't need one of the "big" Harley's necessarily!

The only reason I'd choose the Daytona is because the Harley looks PVD coated....
