Love the story and the watch. Enjoy in good health. As you say you can strike gold in these pawn shops if you know your stuff.

Are you sure your watch is a A serial 1998/9 because in that time frame was the change over from Tritium to Luminover then the word Swiss on bottom the dial. Now from 2000 on the words Swiss Made were on bottom the dial which your watch clearly has.

The bracelet I'd X11 which would be November '99.?? The serial is A7xxx... It must be a LATE 1999 or early 2000.....or a service dial?

Absolutely awesome. I have a similar story but I'll keep it hidden for the time being. I do agree, there are little shops that just do not know what they have...and makes scoring 'The Deal' worth the wait!

Congrats!

all though I am glad that you made a great deal, I dont agree with the means. Call me old fashion but all you have in life is your name...integrity goes a long way. I always try to put myself in the other persons position. Just my two cents....

If it was me, I would tell him that hey the watch checked out. After all you already paid for it and nothing he can do. You might end up with a good relationship with him in the future and more discounts to come because you educated him on 14060.

Great story and congratulations for the deal of the decade! ;)

Right, because pawn shop proprietors are known for being honest and fair.

Pawn brokers provide a valuable service whether you like them or not they aren't crooks and they live and die by their decisions. Which leads me to believe something is up with this deal. i could easily be wrong but you don't stay in business very long by letting cash walk out the door, he could/should have taken it to someone who knew what it was and I wouldn't be so sure that he didn't. I think the likelihood that it's hot or altered is very real.

I believe A serials say SWISS on the dial, not Swiss Made.

Nope. I have seen at least 2 other A7... With X11 bracelets and "SWISS MADE" dials. I have pics saved on my computer at home. I had noticed this and did some digging. It seems odd but not impossible or necessarily a red flag.

I've been doing thus a long time. Something I have noticed along the way .... A lot of these store owners and managers THINK they know everything but in reality are clueless. I won't even get into how many Seiko chronographs I have bought that store owners sold yo me for pennies because they were "broken"....Many Seiko chronos don't have any visible hand movement unless the chrono is activated. Lord knows I tried to educate these people only to be told I was wrong. Also, Florida has the toughest pawn laws in the country. POLICE constantly check the logs on a daily basis. HOT goods are caught quickly.

It`s not every day that you read a "lucky pawn shop find" story.

It pays to do your homework!

Soma are, some aren't. Just like in any profession, there's good ones and bad ones. A few that I've known for years are among the most honorable people you'd ever hope to meet.

And what difference would that make the parachom is not something magical its a hairspring nothing more. And you just cannot exchance the hairspring on its own the whole escapement would have to be changed. The hairspring is matched and married to the balance wheel escapement.
