Despite the butt ugly releases recently, I'm still a fan.

I do not think the sky dweller is too far from the rolex tradition and I quite like it ( if not able to afford it) and I think it is in the line up for the long term. As for the others I do not think many will be seen in the wild once the initial rush has gone

The sky dweller will be a great addition for Rolex and I wouldn't take the other fringe releases of existing models as their future direction, but rather a fashion statement for 2012... these types of models are always being released by brands but are rarely seen in the wild

Not worried about the direction Rolex is going. Why? They still make the ones I like:

1. Submariner in Stainless Steel.
2. Gold President.
3. GMT Stainless Steel.
4. Stainless Steel Daytona.

As long as the above models continue to be produced, I'm happy with what ever Rolex wants to do, because I am not a potential buyer for a rainbow Daytona or other bling bling models.

Not one bit. The Skydweller is quite well received.

One need only look at some of the offerings by other brands to see not all is tradition. Be kinda boring.

Not worried here. And Rolex continues to be hugely successful so that tells me they are doing something right. Of course at the moment there are so many classic pieces for the Old School aficionados that it all is balancing out. At least for now I say wear whatever you like in good health! I'm more worried about global warming!

I`m not worried but I am disappointed in the Sky-Dweller.

The pieces that you've mentioned are niche pieces that I dont feel are too indicative of the direction that rolex is going. I like the new "maxi" cases, and rolex is being true to their brand while evolving with the times. Im not worried at all.

No not at all. I do like everything about the new Sky Dweller except the price.

Nothing wrong with the direction they are taking as long as they are not doing 46mm watch.

I am more concern my wages aren't going up as quickly as their price rises!

Skydweller is just a terrible name --- what am I supposed to do,
wear it when I am in the space shuttle or when I am parachuting
or skydiving - Sounds like a K-Mart watch.

I see your point. Rolex will never go back to making the same type of tool watches that it once did.

Tastes evolve over time and Rolex is one of the best at appealing to the what is in demand. Not a huge fan of most of the new releases either, but I can't blame them for what they are doing.

The only worry I have regarding the direction Rolex is heading pertains to their price.

Rolex knocked it out of the park with the new Exp II. Of course I am a little biased. I just bought the 216570 and couldn't be happier

Why worry?

Unless your last name is Wilsdorf I wouldn't worry about Rolex. There are plenty of other great watch companies out there with terrific watches for sale if you have no skin in the bracelet clasp.
