You can simply sell your mass produced Rolexes and order up a intricately designed, hand made marvel from Switzerland.

Let's simplify this with an example we can identify with. Using the same assumptions, McDonalds serves 23 burgers per second, but If you've ever been there, you know it takes them longer than 1/23 of a second to actually make one. Ok, only SLIGHTLY longer, but you get my point!

Ha ha ha ha ha Has anyone factored in the time it took to design the watch in the first place? What about the actual assembly of all the little pieces ? What about the testing of each watch ? THe polishing ? What about all the engineering time involved?

C'mon, 15 seconds might be what it costs to punch out a case but there is a lot more to making a watch than just that.

This could get complex!! Ok Rolex has 2 "factories". So we have to "factor" by 2. Then we have time for integration of the components. I haven't done integrals in a while but I remember they make numbers bigger. Then we have the division of labor. Let's say division by 2000 to get a rough figure. The derivative of the product Is time, so time is integral too. Wait. I'm confused.

Yes, my watch is a mass produced product. But hey, it is very well produced, and a machine is more precise than a man.
Exclusivity is only marketing for rich, self-centered and naive people..
My watch will last a lifetime, will do it very well and stay precise and aesthetic. Rolex does not make children work, and it is ecologically rational, much more than a car.

To make it simple there many parallel processes. While the case is being made, the dial is being made, each internal component is being made, the bracelet links are being made, etc., etc.

Add up the individual durations of all of the parallel activities and 15 seconds does not make sense.

Those cars you mentioned do not exactly count as they are more collector cars than every day transportation.

When I look at my Rolex watches they exude quality and exemplary fit and finish.

While I may not be on the AP or PP bandwagon (Yet) like other members here, as a collector of another type of item that cannot be mentioned here per the rules of equal or lesser value, I know quality when I see it.

If Rolex watches were produced in a nanosecond I'd be the first in line to understand how their operation works so that I may use their practices in my industry.
