Visually, SD and DSSD look very similar. DSSD just looks bigger.
However, DSSD will not work under a shirt collar. But seems like you dress casual. So if you like a bigger face, go for the DSSD...if you want an all rounder (formal and informal occasions), get the SD. |

16600 what's the point in lugging around with all that extra weight?

I've had the Deepsea and now have a regular Sea Dweller. The Deepsea is a great watch but it just sits too tall on the wrist in my opinion. It's not too heavy and is very comfortable but because of the height it just stands out too much.
I thought long and hard and in the end sold it and bought the regular Dweller which I'm much happier with. |

The SD 16600 is the classic professional Rolex dive watch.
The DSSD is an oversized lump of steel which Rolex made to appease the big watch trend, and to compete with the likes of Panerai. Really depends on whether you're happy to flip as trends change, or would like something with more conservative but longer lasting style. |

I think I've decided on the Dweller. Now I need to figure out if I want lug holes or not!

mmm.... dssd is a better bang for the buck engineering and exclu wise imo but the sd is the better daily wear item. however, if the 14060 seemed small, the sd will too. i believe its actually narrower than the old sub by 1mm but i could be wrong. you may need to get the dssd afterall or even look at the new exp2 which is quite a lot of watch for the rollie dollar. im just not a fan of pcl's so it'll have to be a sport model imo.

Deep Sea. I've had the SD 4000 for about 10 years now and it is a great watch but it was just too small for my frame. (6'2'' 225lbs) Once I got the Deep Sea its been my favorite watch to wear daily. Great technology, way better bracelet and clasp and just a more substantial piece that I think fits better on large frame people.

Very nice guys! I like the look of lug holes, not to mention it makes wearing a NATO strap a little easier.

SD is a great watch, but DSSD is a watch in her own league. So special. Go try one and you will know why.

I just picked up a DSSD and love it. Charles hit the nail on the head with his comments - it is an extraordinary piece of engineering and I really enjoy wearing it.

I, too, am not a big person (5'8"), and I prefer the larger size/feel of my DSSD. Like I said in one of my earlier posts, some people like to know they are actually wearing a watch. I wear long-sleeved, button-down collar Polo shirts to work most of the time and have NO problems with my DSSD fitting under the cuff. When I have a suit on, I wear Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein, or Polo dress shirts (no button-down collars). Again, no cuff issues. Maybe it's a French cuff thing when it comes to the DSSD not fitting under one's sleeve?? Not my problem, however, as I'll never wear a shirt with them. Good luck with your decision!! Either way, you're going to have a great, wardrobe-flexible watch that will last a lifetime!! Enjoy your choice!!! |

fyi:
if you don't think the 14060m is the right size for you, i don't know if a SD is going to make you happy? they are very similar with the exception of the height off the wrist. i would recommend you stick with the 14060m. i have both and it really comes down to if i want a date or not ... if you want more of a presence on your wrist perhaps a different watch .... so many to choose from ... the 14060m has just been upgraded to the new ceramic model with a new bracelet and no lugholes. the new explorer is 42mm a nice compromise in size and then there is panerai... PS for what it is worth, i see many more SD in the wild than 14060m.

Good point. I've NEVER seen a 14060 in the wild.

DSSD - it's the best choice for an all-around watch irt your build and type of work clothes.
