Great question Dan and the answer is YES. I started off with an Omega Seamaster which I received for graduation and still wear due to sentimental value and at the time liked it because it was in a James Bond movie. LOL! 5 years later bought a PAM 25 then PAM 090 then Bell and Ross Radar (Sold all 3) then FINALLY came to my senses when I hit 30. I realized these watches the size of Wall Clocks will come and go and are just look at me watches in my opinion. I realize Panerai has a huge following and a pretty cool history if you look back, but I only bought them because I thought they were cool not realizing that they lacked an in house movement and looked way too damn big for my wrists. I do have a PAM 292 which I love because it is all Black Ceramic and doesn't look like your typical Panerai. After that I have come up with a strict 40mm and under policy for myself. Since implementing this I have purchased a Hulk Sub, Vintage Day Date, and Vintage Explorer II 1655. As you know based on our PMs back and forth the only thing left on my list is a Vintage Daytona and maybe a Patek when I get into my 40s

As always, I enjoy the comments of those who have cared to share their opinions and how they look at watches.
Great comments, please keep them coming.

Yes it has. Since I joined TRF I've become familiar with many different high end watches unfortunately they are way out of my price range. But I must say that if I ever hit the lottery I will have a whole new collection of watches..

It has and it is constanly evolving. I started by getting a Rolex just because I figured it was time to get me a Rolex.
After doing so, I found this site in combination with making more trips to the AD I purchased a few more Rolex watches. I have since gained an appreciation for everything watches you could say. From Rolex to other various brands and styles to include complications and dress watches per say. I ventured into vintage with the asistance of a forum member here who volunteered and was so kind to help me get the Red Sub I had desired. At one time I didn't think I would appreciate Panerai, but I eventually learned to appreciate this brand and do like how these look as well. I have since learned for now which ones I tend to wear more now than others and I am now focusing for now more on sports watches of approximately 40mm. I stopped putting off a couple purchases of brands and models of ones I kept saying I would do in the future and made them a priority for now. Funny a few of those I have purchased now a couple of years ago I did not appreciate for what they were but I now thoroughly enjoy. I now take quite a bit longer to research than once I did in the beginning, this has made the purchase even more enjoyable. I'm learning and evolving and I am sure in the future my tastes may change a bit again. So it's been Rolex, various brands, vintage Rolex, and now other various brands. No problem though, because I enjoy learning, evolving, looking at, and appreciating various different watches. Even those which I don't particulary care for now, however I may sometime in the future.

I think that, as I get further into this "hobby", I find myself appreciating many different watches than ever before. Sure I like Rolex's, and I will probably buy another at some point. However, I also have 3 Omega's and a Tag. I'd really like to get a JLC next. And then.....?

You had me awestruck when I saw your YM2 and daytona's.
But then I thought I evolved when you got your PP.

Kind of, I got interested in solid gold watches (since I started to work I got the money to afford those) but also took interest in mechanical movements and especially some complications.

Yes. Bought my first Rolex and loved it so much I bought a second Rolex within two weeks. For a period I thought the only brand I'd ever own was Rolex. I still love Rolex, and will likely buy more in the future (including vintage), but there are so many other great makers and styles out there my next will be something other than Rolex.

I don't know if my tastes changed as much as they evolved. I still like the watches I bought 30, 20 and 10 years ago, even if they are not what I'd buy today. The watches I'm attracted to today are an evolution of my past.

My brand evolution over the past 25 years
Rolex > Panerai > AP > Patek > (Next would like a Lange) They all have their merits and I enjoy all brands. |

I think mine has remained the same, Dan. I still love my Rolexes & PAM's. There were times I tried to venture off to the Omega and PP's, but at the end, I keep coming back to these two brands.

Vintage...
I went from admiring newer Rolexes to admiring Vintage Rolexes within my first year of Rolex ownership...I used to collect vintage cars, so I should have guessed I would move in this direction....
I wear my Tudor Sub7928 for weeks straight...Hell, I might have to get another one...

About 15 years ago, I almost bought a sub, which I had always thought to be the ultimate watch, ever since I was a child, yes even as a child I was a WIS. :)
I had saved up a little bit of money, I went to Mayors, I believe the list price back then for a sub date was $3600, I put down a 50% deposit, they needed to order the watch as they didn't have any in stock, yes, even back then it was a pretty hard watch to get. So, I put down my deposit, however, like a moron, I ended up retrieving my deposit in order to buy an Omega Seamaster, and what I now know to be a crappy Tag Heuer. I will admit, the Omega served me well, and I enjoyed that watch for many years. I had problems with the Tag, and never liked it. :) I Always regretted going that route. However I lost interest in watches for a little while, and then I became interested in exclusively big, chunky divers. Breitling, Sinn, and some other highly regarded but nonetheless boutique- quality watches. I am a very big guy, so I always naturally assumed that large, chunky divers were the way to go for me. At one point some years ago, I bought what I still consider to be the ultimate chunky, heavy diver that is big and thick for no other reason than to be big and thick. A UTS 2000m professional diver. :) I believe this is the watch that cured me of my desire to wear a small clock on my wrist. Then I finally got smart, I got a great deal on a Vintage Collection Aquatimer, which is probably a thick watch compared to a Patek, but for a diver it's relatively thin, and I began to appreciate the quality of superior comfort and wearability. Although I did arguably take a step backwards in getting a Panerai Submersible, I now happily wear watches that I once believed were too small, and now I wear my Sub C all the time, and I don't feel the need to upgrade to a Deepsea, and trust me, if anybody can pull off a Deepsea, it's me, the human Sasquatch. I now have my sights set on a Patek Nautilus chronograph, the only small detail is that I need to figure out a way to earn a lot more money than I do right now. |

definetly yes at the beginning was more important its history than the horological art its represents, i ve started with a moonwatch since it was on the MOON than took a 1675 and some Subs ending with a Panerai.than i ve noticed that big watch trend became too popular among the masses so i like to wear smaller timepieces these days ,those are more trendy in my perception than the 44+ sizes .i still love Subs but feel my Daytona as the perfect size of mens watch however on the chase for JLC reverso classique,I think anything smaller might be really too small.

Taste hasn't really changed, but knowledge and ability have. Plus the industry has changed a lot over the last 2 decades.
