$20 says his was fake and he was going on the offensive after getting "called out". When you wear a fake your insecurities likely are at a high.

I understand that many Rolex are received as gifts, so I don't begrudge someone for not knowing what they've got - my GF bought her dad a 14060M and neither one of them know anything about it other than it's pretty. But to be rude is a whole 'nother level. I'm even more shocked a coworker would do such a thing.

Thats why I do not compliment strangers on their watches. It can only lead to an arguement if your comments are not received well.

He probably wore a fake, and felt compelled to call you out before you call him out. Alternatively, his wife dumped him earlier that day (for someone without ED), hence the dick attitude.

What a complete A$$ Clown! I had something similar happen to me while shopping in a Macy's. Two guys whom appeared to be late 20's and possibly identical twins were looking at jeans next to me when I noticed both quickly taking glances at my wrist. Which of course I just took as silent respect. However, as I stepped around the corner to look at a shirt, one of the guys says..."Did you see that guys Rolex Submariner?" the other guy says "yeah, but it was fake!". The first guy asked him why he thought that, and the second guy said: "because it was too large and looked different." I just walked away, as I try really hard not to argue with ignorant people! However, had I already been engaged in conversation, I doubt I could have resisted Bit€h Slapping him into his place.

What a jackoff he was. His was probably fake!

Were you in the park, or in a local town? Just curious as I just moved from the area...

Whether you agree or disagree with commenting on a stranger's watch, it does seem a rather strange response to a civil comment.

Most people who own a nice watch are generally quite proud of it and will be pleased if they are praised, in the right manner and circumstances. This just seems way too defensive and the guy was simply either just bad tempered and aggressive in his normal demeaner or was embarrassed because it was not what you thought it was i.e. a real Rolex.......

If I was a betting man..... it would say it was the latter ........

The risk is too high that someone with a black sub has no idea about watches as these are often bought by people who just want a watch with the brand Rolex on it as well as being bought by those of us in the know. These are the type of people you want to avoid.

The more uncommon the watch, the more likely that they will actually be a watch connoisseur, and hence a better chance that you'll have a pleasant encounter. Someone who buys a Milgauss or Nautilus or a Lange or an AP RO or a Grand Seiko are much more likely to know about watches and they'll be more receptive to a random stranger approaching them and saying 'nice watch' :)

That's too bad. All Rolex's are great watches. That guy has no reason to say that. Sure, I absolutely adore the 16610. But the 116610LV, is a really special watch. It is not for everyone, but it is fun spotting them in the wild.

I never comment on a strangers watch.

If it's really nice I ogle it for a while.

That's what TRF is for. You get to stare at and comment on nice watches without the fear of some idiot snapping at you.

Hell I commented on my cousin's DDYG on Mother's Day and he looked at me like I was crazy. I was hoping since I just purchased a rollie we'd be able to talk about em, NOPE.

Most people who act defensive are usually protecting their fragile egos or scared.
So ignore their comments.

Sadly I've had similar experiences and no longer initiate any watch talk with strangers.

Still can't for the life of me figure out why the negative responses.
