is it white-yellow or rose gold?? if it is full rose gold then go for it without a flinch, that's a fantastic price the downside though is that pre-owned will cost you about 25-26k as of now. if it is a white gold I wouldn't pay that much the reason is that on white gold you can find a LNIB for about 21-22k. if it is yellow gold its the same deal as the white gold.

Don't do it. Find one per-owned for less...

As others have said, this is something that's supposed to be fun not a source of financial or emotional stress . . . I would pass.

Don't be caught up with the price increase and try to save the world!
If you do it and try to sell the very next day you will end up getting your money back.

I agree with the people who suggested buying here on TRF.....you can do much better than 27G. I recently bought the same watch from Davidsw and couldn't tell it from a bnib.

i dont think i would buy a white gold one for that price under these circumstances.... personally imho white gold looks to much like stainless to justify the huge price jump... :) just me though..

Actually, there are subtle differences if you put them next to each other in the same lighting. Ymmv but I bought it for myself not others so I don't really care if it's not well differentiated and looks like steel.

The one from the UK definitely does and I'm pretty sure the rest do. This business of excluding VAT is something I've only heard in America. I remember the first time I was shopping in America and I went to the till and my bill went up by about 15%. It's beyond me why you guys do that. Are people supposed to work out percentages as they walk around the store ? In England the price on the tag is what you pay.

That white gold sub from UK is a great deal, unfortunately out of my price range. Come over and catch the Olympics then go home with a new watch

Joey, as the other TRF veterans have stated and as I mentioned to you before do not buy a watch that you cannot readily afford. There is no point in that! Good luck with your move

For Jay and Mike! Seeing those 116619 prices I definitely feel like I overpaid for mine! That $20k price is insane! Great value for that reference and if the seller would work out a deal to include VAT and import duties then that would be a major win!

Sam if you already have one you could sort of "adapt" to the system. Come to England and catch some of the Olympics. Buy your reasonably priced watch and head home. If you get stopped at customs show them your receipt for your current WG sub and claim that the new watch is the old one. A little bit dodgy but you get a nice watch. Obviously you can't take your current WG sub with you for this

Good sir! Though interesting and I am sure some folks have done that before, I personally would not want to risk my reputation getting stopped and held up at customs for a reference I already own... I would not mind visiting to catch the Olympics though! Chat soon sir!

Although the flip side is, it maybe $27,000 more than you want to spend right now.

This is the best Advice I've read here...

It's somewhat reassuring to know that I'm not the only one who has at times yawed off that course, and let the dark side of the OCD take over...

I agree wait until the WG sub represents a triumph and not a sacrifice/reminder of the watches you had to give up...

If after getting it you realize that the rest of the Subs are superfluous, then you can get rid of them on your terms...

Yes, no tax.

UPDATE!

So I called the AD today to place the WG Smurf on hold until I have a day off on Tuesday (seeing as today was the last day they could hold the price). I was willing to put $5K down... but no one answered the phone and it kept going to voicemail (which is odd because I always call during business hours and someone always picks up).

I tried 3x. I even called from where I work.

No one answered.

It was not meant to be... moving on.

I'm saying sell the 3 and get it. I Took what the OP said to mean he really can't afford to buy outright but he is able to get rid of 3 to get the smurf. I don't think it's irresponsible for him to sell the 3.

It's always been this way. Sales tax is never added to the price tag. I'm not sure why this is. I agree, it's stupid. Some items are not taxed though (like food at the grocery store), so what you see on the tag is exactly how much you pay. It would be more convenient if they added in tax for taxable items. But, in short, yes, we work out tax in our head by doing a rough estimation. Sales tax in CA is 8.75%, so we just add 10% percent to the price and know it won't be above that number.

If it is your grail then go for it, sell 3 for one.
For me if i had to sell 3 of my watches to get my current grail then i would do it with a smile on my face (after all nothing beats the grail

It's not really feasible for us in the States to add the tax to the base price. We have 50 states, each with their own tax rate. Add to that municipal taxes in certain areas and other tax-favored zones and you have many combinations for manufacturers to consider.

Hold out like Mike said and once comfortable get one from TRF.

It's a beauty...thought about one before price increase too, but didn't know if I needed three Subs--happy with my others for now.
