Because it's a status symbol and it attracts the girls, of course...

In all seriousness, I bought my Rolex because I found it to be a very versatile timepiece, it looks very casual and yet it has a little fancy side. Besides, it was my very first mechanical timepiece and its amazing movement put an end to a lot of prejudice I had for non-quartz watches.

Seemed like a good start. I will try some other brands before buying another Rolex though.

These are the main reasons to buy a Rolex for me:

1. Durable and accurate in house movement.

2. Well designed and proportioned Oyster case.

3. Exceptional bracelet and clasp.

4. Widespread service network.

5. Great resale value.

Tell me an another luxury watch brand that fits my criterias and I will buy it.

parents, family members, and people around me had them while growing up. i always wanted a sub because it is the iconic sports watch. however, i ended up with a gmt.

I actually have several other brands, but for me Rolex is iconic. Obviously the Bond connection made an impression on me as a kid. But moreso than that was the Magnum P.I. episode in which Thomas Magnum was left to tread water in the open ocean for many hours, all if which he timed with his trusty GMT left to him by his father. Even as a kid, I knew I had to own a Rolex after watching that episode.

Wasn't really interested in a Rolex until I saw the GMTIIc for the first time. Had to have it.

I just think they are fun to own collect, and wear.

Kind of like baseball cards.

Plus, they annoy my friends who are much better off than me, but who wear cheap watches.

As Eddie mentioned above they are definitely iconic and I can remember wanting one as far back as I can remember. Great times buying the first. However, I can also say it got me interested in quite a few other brands...and should have my JLC soon (can't wait!).
