It's funny that a lot of people said Panerai......Panerai used to use a Rolex movement in their watches....granted they no longer do but without Rolex there possibly could not be Panerai.

I would create my own brand and do things like never discount it, paint the dials with little bits of red occasionally, come up with some cool ads and get it on the wrist of every pimp, pilot, diver, secret agent, rebel leader, stock broker, oil well fire putter-outer, mercenary and dowager I could.

If no Rolex or Omega, then Panerai. Great history and really interesting new ways that they're going with their manufacture movements.

IWC; I owned a da Vinci for a while, beautiful watch but too big for me and horribly complex. Their pilots watches are renowned.

Ultimately? Well, then either Vacheron Constantin or Breguet. But within roughly the same price range as Rolex and Omega, I would pick Zenith.

Without hesitating, I'd go with JLC. Besides offering such high quality and reliable watches, they offer much more in the way of variety of styles and functions available, as well as variety of true manufacture movements and capacity to come up with more. In other words, if I were restricted to one company, it is clear none other has the potential to satisfy my whims (or whatever whims I might have in the future).

No Rolex...I probably wouldn't care about watches as it was a Rolex that started me on this path.

If I had to choose it would be JLC, Glashutte or VC(if I was rich!!!!!)

How about Kobold?

I'm suprised no one mentioned Kobold.

A watch designed as a tool watch, made to be very durable, and marketed as a watch that travels with various explorers around the world, and whose logo is accompanied by the phrase "Embrace Adventure".

I would have thought this was pretty familiar territory to those who know the Rolex marketing scheme of the 1950's -1970's.

Rolex 1970s-Thor Hyerdhal and the Kon Tiki
Kobold 2006- Sir Ranulph Fiennes and 7 marathons in 7 days.

As Rolex has evolved towards a more polished, blingy and occasioanlly bejewelled adventurer's watch, Kobold strikes me as the new up-and-comer to the title of tough-guy aventurer watch with a touch of bling, something to appeal to Rolex fans if Rolex was no more.

Just a thought,

Chris
