In the start of the season I was looking forward to this series. Figured it would be a close race to the post season as the end of regular play is coming up quickly. I had planned on going to one of these games. As it turns out,why bother. Ded Sox are in the cellar. I'll save my games coming up for teams in the hunt.
The series against the O's the start of Sept looks like a good time to go to the Bronx.
The last series of the reg season is against the Chowderheads. At least NY will be able to rest some players/pitchers for the upcoming playoffs.

Wow, great suggestions, everyone! Thanks!

I will have driven about 3200 kilometers in a Yaris, where would I find a reasonably priced back and shoulder massage? I don't want a fancy spa or anything, just a quality job.

For off the beaten tourist path try the Staten Island Ferry, now get this,it`s free!!!!!!!!!!

That`s right, free, you get a 25 min. trip there and a 25 min. back all for free and you get to see Ellis island and the Statue of Liberty as well, all for the low low price of zip.I don`t see how you`re going to get a better deal anywhere in NYC for that kind of money.

If you don`t believe it google it and you`ll see,I couldn`t believe it at first.Call (718) 727-2508 or (718) 815-BOAT/the boats depart and arrive on the half hour weekdays and weekends.

Bon Voyage!

There are a lot of legitimate massage places that provide average, but cheap massages. And then there are those not so legitimate places (no store front) so don't be at the wrong place at the wrong time.

I go to Living Well Medical (in the village) on a weekly basis for a massage and adjustment. If you don't mind a masseur, David provides an amazing, therapeutic massage.

Mama's Deli, in Corona, Queens. The best meatball sandwiches. Try the cannoli and espresso. Take in a Yankee game in their new stadium; if they are playing Boston, even better. Ground Zero; ferry to Staten Island; walk the Brooklyn Bridge; stop and visit Trinity Boxing club on your way to any Manhattan deli. There is a kosher deli in that district, but I can't remember the name (quite big, on the corner). Crash a Jewish wedding! I ran out of time, but this was on my list. Visit an Irish pub for a pint--there are many. I only had six days, and I did a few other things-Fire Island, being one. It helps if you know someone familiar with the area. Eat everything and have fun!

If you like Mexican, go to Canyon Road on the upper east side. First Avenue in the 70's. My favorite margaritas.

The best Latin American food in NYC is at the Red Hook Soccer Fields on Sat and Sun

I think Tony Bourdain did a show where he went to those exact fields and sampled a bunch of vendors stuff, looked great. NYC has the country's best street food, that is for sure. Between the old school ethnic fair, the dogs and sausage vendors, and the new school food trucks NYC has it all.

Grimaldi's is great, but really worth the queue? I think not. There is almost as good as a place just round the corner directly under the bridge but i don't recall it's name

Ignazio's?

There's good pizza throughout NYC. Most are "just as good" as Grimaldi's to anyone who doesn't eat NYC pizza on a regular basis. I don't even think the other Grimaldi's locations are as good as the original location. People line up at all the "best pizza" joints throughout NYC... Grimaldi's is the only one worth the wait.

IMO, the only one that come's close is Totonno's near Coney Island.

Lombardi's even delivers to my door but I would rather cross the bridge to Brooklyn

Yeah, he was there. He filmed there before it changed completely over to the food truck system they have now. They used to have makeshift restaurants with blue tarp roofs for years.

Having a great time so far, finally had the first decent coffee since arriving in the US. Went to see the Phantom of the Opera and have done a lot of walking. Will start checking things off this list tomorrow morning.

I need to pick up a decent Canon zoom lens before taking the Staten Island ferry, any suggestions for shops with good prices and a decent selection?

Good to hear you're enjoying NYC!

B&H Photo on 34th St & 9th Ave.

Overall, the best selection and price in the city. It's closed on Saturday's (Shabbat) and a mad house on Sundays. Excellent return policy too in case you don't love the lens.

It's kind of too far west for some people so you can also try Adorama on 18th St between 5th ave and 6th ave. Also closed on Saturdays for the same reason.

Thanks! I've ordered from both BH and Adorama before, didn't realise they had physical stores too. (Not to mention Leisure Pro, which appears to share the address with Adorama.)

Had a great time, thanks everyone for the advice! I had lots of excellent food, saw Phantom of the Opera, did a lot of walking and spent way too much at Adorama, BHP and Leisure Pro. As expected, the AP boutique was great, and Tourneau sucked. I could easily have used another two weeks to do everything I wanted to do. Here's a few photos.

Had breakfast at Bubby's:

Strolled through the park:

Had lunch at Doughnut Plant:

Had dinner at Grimaldi's:

(Yes, best pizza ever, definitely worth standing in line for an hour, twice!)

Top of the Rock:

The SoL:

Times Square:

Manhattan from Brooklyn:

And a few shots from the trip there, including Amish parking in Wisconsin:

Fabulous pictures. I am glad to hear you had such a fabulous time in NYC. Also for anyone in NYC or visiting another awesome donut place is called Baked by Butterfield on the UES located at 77th and Lexington. The donuts are baked not fried and they are incredible!

I never met a doughnut I didn't like, just like pizza! To me there is no "bad" pizza or "bad" doughnuts, just varying levels of good
If you're hungry enough even cafeteria pizza or day old doughnuts can be enjoyed
