Yea I would say that it's probably the real deal. Seems like he's putting it all out there and willing to go the extra step to verify the authenticity.

According to the auction page the seller is Scooter Gabel.
On Aug-29-12 at 18:52:41 PDT, seller added the following information:

SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE CONTACTED ME THROUGH EBAY ASKING MY NAME ETC... TRYING TO VERIFY THE AUTHENTICITY OF THE WATCH. MY NAME IS SCOOTER GABEL. I LIVE IN TAMPA FLORIDA (WHICH IS WHERE THE "ITEM LOCATION" IS). AS YOU CAN SEE FROM THE 2007 RACE RESULTS, I WAS ONE OF THE WINNING DRIVERS OF THE #22 ALEGRA MOTORSPORTS GATORADE PORSCHE. I AM PICTURED AT THE RIGHT IN THE PODIUM PHOTO NEXT TO THE ALLEN BRILL OF ROLEX. AGAIN... I UNDERSTAND THE TENDENCY TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A COUNTERFEIT WATCH, BUT I ASSURE YOU IT IS NOT. I WILL TAKE THE WATCH TO A LOCAL AUTHORIZED ROLEX DEALER FOR AUTHENTICATION PRIOR TO FINAL PAYMENT. FROM THERE, THE SERIAL NUMBER CAN BE VERIFIED BY ROLEX. ANY OTHER ASSURANCES THAT I CAN GIVE TO PROSPECTIVE BIDDERS WITHOUT RELEASING THE SERIAL NUMBER WILL BE HAPPILY OBLIGED. THANKS YOU.

He should have done that from the start.

I knew that. I was just pointing out that to me a winners watch from a well know high profile driver would be worth more to me then one from a lesser known driver as I described in my post. That's just my opinion.

The reserve was not met in the original Ebay auction. Bidding never exceeded $15,101 USD. Now he is trying to sell it through Antiquorum. Maybe it will sell this time, considering he's sweetened the pot with his race jumpsuit!

Don't forget the Champagne stained cap.

Very real .
The watch itself is a run of the mill 116520 with regular warranty documents .
It is Rolex USA that has the case back engraved and upgrades the box to the " master pieces " box . Were you to inquire with Rolex SA in Geneva they would not be able to confirm if this watch was indeed issued to the race winner , only Rolex USA could confirm this .

It looks like the watch didn't sell.
I'm not surprised considering the high starting bid ($35k).
For this price, I buy another Rolex model...
