More to the point, I'm unaware of any watch that looked remotely like the Royal Oak prior to its introduction by any designer, including Genta.

I dont know what watch is the alleged "original", but according to Genta himself he may very well have designed that as well (http://www.veryimportantwatches.com/...g_rules_en.pdf).

He says he has contributed to more then 100.000 watches in some way, including the designs. Its mind boggling if its just 10% of that. Imagine his influence on watches as we know them today!

Ny point is just that if there is some precursor to the shape in question, we may in fact be accusing Genta of copying Genta without knowing :).

As mentioned before by mb23 no one can deny marketing genious of Mr. Biver (you probably saw the new Hublot Atelier project - http://www.bornrich.com/hublot-ateli...ew-level.html)

When AP hire brand ambassadors and make their LE models they do it discreetly, with little details and back case engraving. It's always AP logo and design in the first place. Hublot do it opposite with brand ambassadors names, simbols, logos, signatures screaming from the dial (Maradona, Bode, Senna, Nastase signatures, Bolt pose, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Miami Heat logos). Also, I cant stand tutifrutti and animal print models. Dont wanna be disresceptful but I see most Hublot models as Nouveau riche and younger crowd watch.

But I actually loved the new Ferrari model (the first Hublot that looks better on live pics) and the idea of magic gold especially because it's developed by a guy from my small country Bosnia & Herzegovina, 30 year old, metallurgical engineer Senad Hasanovic.

Personally I don't like them.
Whilst I appreciate the technology inside and the innovative use of materials, aesthetically I just see Big & Ugly
Just my opinion
