Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, plenty of Panerai, Breitling - all of these would fit the bill nicely. If you want my opinion, the 45mm Omega Planet Ocean would be my choice - incredible movement, top notch fit and finish, all for significantly less than the latest SubC. Omega has a reputation as a second tier brand, but there's nothing second tier about the Planet Ocean

The DSSD is a superb piece and would suit you well. The sub looks fine you.....but I always steer towards my DSSD before the sub now. No contest IMO.

+1 Dalip talked me into a DSSD and it is definitely my go-to watch now.
It has a tendency to make all others seem a little small by comparison:)

That subs suit you just fine,I'm 6'2 260 and the sub doesn't look out of place on me at all and that's with 22" arms and 16" forearms down to an 8" wrist.

Hey there,

I don't think it looks small at all in your wrist shot, but if you were those bigger watches often, I'd say thats why it does to you maybe. I bet in person it looks just right to observers. Be glad your not like me with the opposite problem.

Ah one of the big watch holdouts. That tide is turning thankfully. Soon we will be back in the glory days of 40mm

Yeah, definitely a nice watch, but to the OP, I would like to state that I do not get sick to my stomach when looking at sub next to SD next to DSSD ---afterall, the previous two ruled for the last 50yrs in setting standard by which all watches are judged ....

Wearing a dSSD is so gratifying and satisfying because of its HUNKA HUNKA metal ---- If you can pull of a DSSD, you will find a strange satisfaction that now you do not need to spend thousands on another diver ---- maybe hundreds on some Diver Beaters like Seiko and Citizen....
For me, the DSSD kind of closed my wallet and desire for more Rolex watches...

No need to feel like killing yourself, not even softly.

You would have acquired your Sub for a great price 12 years ago and it's likely worth almost twice what you paid for it.

A great choice.

Now you are welcome to buy a DSSD if you think it suits your wrist better. I'm not so sure that it would and the cost of modern Rolex watches are a bit, well .... elevated these days.

I like my watches beefy -- so I am planning on selling my two Seadwellers for one DEEPSEA --- After wearing the DSSD, even the SDs feel pretty womanly......
Hate to bust your bubble, but the big watch trend is slowly but surely going away. The Submariner at 40mm is an excellent size that will always be around.

As a matter of fact, yesterday I saw this very well put together guy wearing an Oyster Date (34mm), and it looked great on him. It's all how you wear the watch and your confidence in my opinion, not how big it is.

No bubble is being burst since the big watch desire is not a trend. These aren't bell bottoms. A lot of money goes into the machinery to produce these watches. I seriously doubt that it will come to an end. The difference between today and 50 years ago is that we have more people buying watches and there are more options. One isn't better than the other. Just different.

Your argument is like saying that switching to organic is a trend and that those people will return to eating processed foods. 25 years ago, organic and raw foods weren't available on the market like they are today. People have more choices today than before.

I own a 320 and now a EXP2. I cannot bring myself to wearing a 40mm anymore. Just doesn't sit right on the wrist. I much prefer the heft of a larger watch.

I agree with you ..... I do not think it is going away --- it is here to stay for a while. I don't know whether men have become more egotistical but the big watch trend, feeds our egos ---- and man, DEEPSEA is just awesome and keeps ROLEX in the market and raises the bar on all others....

Pretty sure it's not just the DSSD that keeps Rolex in the market
