I like Escalades. I think it's a upscale truck capable of pulling a camper or running to the home store or nursery. Funny that the name "Escalade" conjurs up stereotypical images.
Kind of like "Prius" makes me think of self rightous baby boomer, eco-hippies.

The 'sclade is a very nice vehicle, but I'm not into the bling factor, so I went with the Tahoe. The only thing I wish I could have gotten was the 6.0 liter engine. Almost the same mileage with more power. Love the room for moving kids and adults, too!

Actually the Escalade gets better gas mileage than the comparable lexus and mercedes. I drove a Lexus GX470 today just in case and I was not impressed, the GL450 mercedes didn't impress me either.
Whether or not I want to drive a Japanese because of dolphin slaying, it is my prerogative. How about Canadian seal clubbing? Chinese skinning live dogs and passing it off as real fox fur, Perhaps blood diamonds, or maybe gold mined in slave trade for the Rolex market? Superlative everyone one here wants to feel like they have some bling, or they wouldn't be into Rolex. I want a rolex to feel like I have a little bit of class, same with an Escalade. I too fit in the business owner/ceo club. Some people put bling on their Cadillac, some people put aftermarket diamonds on their Rolex. Does a pimp watch directly make you feel that the Rolex brand is a drug dealer watch? |

When I see somebody driving an Escalade, the first thought that crosses my mind is "What a Waste." If I'm gonna drop 50-70k on a vehicle, it's gonna be made in Germany. If you are into Rolex watches for the bling factor...you won't be here long. Something else will have a little more bling and off you go. I hope you enjoy Rolex watches for their mechanical excellence. If so, you might want to take a look at the BMW 5 series or MB E or S class autos. Oh yeah, get a Dodge Ram 1500 to haul around your stuff. Cheap and Plentiful on the used market. Since you can write both vehicles off to your business, you might want to check out the M or AMG offerings That is what I call BLING

Now in all seriousness...
For the needs you have, I would find a clean used, Ford Excursion with the Power Stroke diesel. Mine got 20 MPG and had 200K on it when I sold it. Huge cargo space and will tow anything you have.

Anything that big, really should be a diesel. Or filling it will be a part time job (even with a 30+ gallon tank).

Since I live in Europe I prefer European cars.
I suggest a BMW X5 or even the new X6, the Mercedes ML line, Land Rover or VW Touareg, which is exceptional....

These days is there a huge difference between a "Luxury" vehicle and a regular one? Go back to the 70's and 80's and think of the most luxurious, yet still attainable vehicle. They had leather, power windows and AM/FM/Cassette. A $27K Toyota Camry has just about every feature ever associated with a luxury vehicle.
Then there is resale. I just did a quick check on KBB: 1998 Cadillac Catera - $3000 1998 Cadillac DeVille - $4600 1998 Honda Accord EX - $5500 2003 Cadillac Escalade - $17,000 2003 Lexus LX470 - $27,000 2003 Toyota Sequoia Ltd. - $18,000 It's not even fair, is it? I used to own a 1998 Accord. Last night on the way home I was stuck behind a late 90's Caddie Deville. This thing was in OK shape, but I thought, "wow, my old Accord is probably worth more than that thing". But the guy was still stuck with it because he was probably so upside down in value he HAD to keep driving it. |

I made the mistake of driving a Porsche Cayenne lol. I went to test some land rovers and the lot was closed, and porsche was open. I think I might have to start a new thread lol.
The driver seat was surprisingly roomy, and my head didn't scrape the roof. There isn't much cargo space, but just enough with the rear seats down. Acceleration on the base is ok, but the turning and braking is excellent. |

I was into Fords until the "owner abuse" thing hit the news. Apparently Ford, as well as the other "traditionally domestic" auto makers have a history of abusing the people who buy their cars. Shocking!
Now I put my energy into avoiding Chinese products, where the REAL human rights problems occur. |

Well, out of the Cayennes. I need 4WD for the snow. Unless there is another car you recommend.

For the Cayenne I did not drive the Turbo. Both the base and the S models both drove like a normal car until you drive in the sports mode. The S feels a little more punchier.
I bought the base model. It will save you about 10 grand. I had the option to buy a nicely loaded base, or a stripped down S for a similar cost. I went with the loaded base. In sports mode the car gears down a little. It is more responsive to gas, and when you let off the gas it feels like you are pressing the break just slightly, similar to gearing down in a standard. In regular drive you start out in gear 2, while in sports mode you start driving in first gear. It is a 6 speed automatic, with tiptronic gear selector to make you feel like you are driving a standard if you choose to turn it on. I do recommend looking a Porsche entry and drive. You never have to take your keys out of your pocket to open or start your vehicle. |
