Ooh, ooh - how about this? A pasta strainer? You squeeze the handle, dip it into the water, pick up the noodly bits, then release the handle to drain the noodles (dumpling, spaetzle, etc.)

Bought a box full of old hand tools at an auction Monday night. I've figured out what most of them are except this thing and another small wood/metal tool. |

Here's the other tool.
The 3 bits are stored in the handle that unscrews. |

Somehow I think the wood/metal tool has to do with leather. I remember my upholstery guy had something similar to press double french stitchings on the Conolly leather. |

I think the first one is an egg beater, for scrambling. The other possibility is it's a dough whisk.

hi Lisa and J....I'm thinking it is not a kitchen utensil anymore- the handle does not seem long enough- if it was for whisking or blending/mashing, your hand would be right in the goop!.....

That's true, Michelle. Handle's too short. And squeezey.

Actually I think you're right, Michelle. The end looks like to could be, but not the handle.
Maybe it's the tool version of evolution, something that seemed like a good idea but didn't work out too well. |

Most people when looking at it thought it was for cooking eggs until they realized it wouldn't open.

Maybe it's not for the kitchen at all. Maybe it's a specialist tool of some kind.
