This actually worked for me at B. Sacamano Fine Jewelers. It does help to know a guy.

walk in with your co-worker. bring cash. be ready to buy.

Yep!

This will also get to the bottom of the ~40% off he claimed.

Ever see a friend with a new Corvette?
He will always start by telling you what a good deal he got - not that he thought he looked good in it

There are a lot of Rolexes collecting dust in AD's that were purchased before the last few price increases. On a model like a TT datejust these discounts are out there to be found.

I am inclined to think that the "friend" got something like 25% and no tax. That would sum up to a theoretical saving of 3x%... then he rounded the number up to 40% to be more dramatic...

Just go ahead and ask. They'll likely look at the invoice on their computer from your friend, and go from there. Asking is free, and especially if you add that you came their on the recommendation from your friend, it can't but help.

I just bought my first and tried dealing with two in Bay Area AD's and could not swing even .000000000000000000001% off, same thing when I was recently in Maui, cash in hand getting serious, best there was tax savings, and they pretty much knew all they had to do was toss me a bone for the deal... Good luck.
