Hmmmm and you just sold one for that price range and now you're saying it's not worth it? So are you saying that you just "boned" the buyer? I'm confused!

I paid 12K for my '98 Zenith Daytona a couple of years ago. I was probably ripped off, but I knew that going in. I am glad to own this special piece, and if I had waited for a "deal" probably would still be waiting.

There are some women who will spend thousands on a hand bag, and after they have used it for a year or two they have a used handbag. But a great timepiece like the SS Daytona never ends up as used, it ends up as a classic! JMO. Larry.

They are. Otherwise, SS Daytonas wouldn't be selling for 40%-50% over MSRP.

Would not pay that amount.
Don't believe the hype.
If it all goes pear shape you would be well out of pocket.

They are more then 12K, but I picked up the leather starpped dayton with metoriate for £9K, and the braclet versions for £12K each. I was going to buy them anayway, and I get a SS daytona at RRP and with discount. Which after selling payed for my wifes mid sized DJ.

Also I can ask for one and the AD will get me one with a bit of a wait. Also the more I spend the bigger my discounts are getting. So in the long run, works out quite well. I might put one of my WG dials intoa SS veriosn to wear as a beater.

You could consider a new TT Daytona for $12K. I have heard of YG Daytonas going for $14-16K, so I'd advise upgrading or waiting for an MSRP deal.

I went with the TT Daytona for under $10K and considered it my best option.

I wouldn't pay the premium because the Daytona is not that high on my list of "Must Haves."

Otherwise, I say that Life is Too Short. You've already missed out on 5 years worth of enjoyment, so I guess you need to ask yourself...How much longer are you willing to wait???

I wouldn't worry about the investment potential. If you can afford to pay the premium, I'm sure you can determine some better alternatives for investment purposes.

50% over MRSP
I would rather add few thousands more to buy a DD after discount
Still cannot understand why people would pay premium for a watch without a date and never use the chrono.

Absolutely not when you consider how inflated the MRSP is in the first place.
Let's face it this watch is not exactly rare, there are hundreds of thousands of the things going round so I don't think it will ever make the people who payed list price a lot of money in a few years time when the hype has gone( which it will, we consumers are a fickel bunch!)
List is as high as I would ever go for this or any other rolex/omega and the like, they are mass manufactured, lovely and covetable but still mass manufactured!
Just think about it, you could have a two rolex's or one rolex and another high end watch with chrono function for the price of this one.
Don't get me wrong, I think the daytona is great but it simply is not stupendously great like some of the hand made rarer timepieces about, just my opinion!

The SS Daytona is great but when I heard the TT is CHEAPER, it made my choice that much easier.

Interesting that your watch could go that long without service. Although I would never let one go quite that long, they are those who would suggest that after that long, all that would be left inside would be metal powder. These things are tougher than some give them credit for. Congrats!

I agree with you, but if the 4130 movement is anywhere near as good as reported, it might be worth the MSRP for a SS.

Howdy;

New to the forum. Interesting topic. If you purchase above MSRP, buy from a dealer that will give you purchase price trade in value and you will never go wrong. BTW, I own a SS Submariner (BD), SS Sub Blue dial, Milgauss (BD), TT Daytona (BD), TT Daytona (WD-Roman), and have not had any of them go beyond 10 years without servicing.

Good luck in finding such an AD. They might do it for diamonds but not for Rolex

If Rolex adds a date feature, I would pay above MSRP.

There's already quite a lot happening on the Daytona dial - where would they squeeze in a date window - and how would that look???? Not a pretty picture imho... Larry.

Yeah, it is busy, but with some careful planning, I think a small date window would look nice. Tag and Omega have done it, although their cases are larger (particularlly the Omega). Just please....no cyclops. :)

Grandaddy;

If you buy from the Rolex store in Costa Mesa, they will give you a trade-in guarantee, so will the store in the Philippines, and the one in the UK. I heard (but have not confirmed it) that the Store in Dubai offers the same deal.
