i have to say its absolutely terrifying that someone would got to such lengths to create a scam. i have read the thread on the fakes forum and even they are saying never buy online.

I'm a mod one one of the replica forums... own both gens and replicas (flame away) but...

One thing that we can all work together on is busting these POS scammers who rip people off on eBay. It is something that is NOT tolerated on any watch forum, replica or genuine.

Selling replica watches as replicas is just as illegal as selling them as genuine. Unless you get out of that whole world, you are a hypocrite.

I work in Iraq, A-stan, Haiti, Syria... not places you want to wear the real deal if you're doing what I do- at least if you want them to continue to look anything like what they resembled what they looked like out of the box and definitely not if you want to keep them on the wrist and out of a hajjis pocket. I use the same name on every board I belong to so I do not try to hide who I am- I'm WAY easier to find that the clown selling the watch mentioned.

I'm not advocating the things- far from it... just pointing out that when other fora find out about butthats like this guy they get banned from those fora.

I understand if everyone calls for my banning from here- but I just wanted to point out as well that you guys have some unusual allies on eBay.

Im glad he is banned on other forums as well due to this thread. Hopefully he has learned his lesson. Most likely not because he didnt seem very sharp.

BTW, if anyone has been scammed by him feel free to pm me. I direct you on how to get all of his info....did I say google is an amazing tool?

I have reviewed my postings and have not found one where I said anything about losing an arm or that being my reasoning behind my postings... perhaps you can enlighten me as to this mystery post you are referring to.

The point of the throwaway watch makes sense when you consider the following...

I work for a State Dept. affiliate. Not all of my work involves "going out amongst them" loaded for bear. Part of it requires interacting with powerful individuals within the host nation society. That interaction requires a certain appearance as outsiders are judged quickly based on that appearance. In most of the world money equates to power and let's face it- nothing says success to most of the world like a Rolex.

That being said my favorite watch is my 14060M. Love it- classic, simple and elegant... everything a watch in my opinion should be. Functional luxury

However those who have been to the ME know that the sand is not beach sand but a fine powder that acts essentially as valve grinding compound. Want to see a rifle go from blued or parkerized into a semi-shiny bare steel finish in a month? Bring it to Iraq or Syria. I do not wish to subject something I paid a decent chunk of change for to that kind of environment.

I also do not wear an automatic watch while "out amongst em". That is why God saw fit to create the Suunto. Carrying it with me in the turret of an 1151 is kind of insane (or should I say delusional?) so it must be left behind in my CHU. A CHU is a shipping container divided in half and fitted with an aluminum door that can be knocked down with a hard look and some harsh language.

Taking the above into account- we work with large amounts of local nationals who get paid on average 400 bucks a month (decent salary for them). The know Ameriki has a nice watch in his CHU and stealing from the kafir isn't a sin after all and there's a whole YEAR of salary just inside that flimsy door...

Speaking of local nationals- we fly in commercial normally. Doing so means dealing with local national Customs officials. If the guy checking my bags takes a shine to my watch and decides it's his do I tell him it's illegal, call him Ali-Baba, threaten to call the police (and get detained and disappeared) or do I give it up with a smile and go on my way?

Also due to SOFA agreements and various treaties we are subject to local law and law enforcement. If we get stopped at some shady checkpoint where the cops manning it may or may not even be cops and they take a liking to what is on my wrist do I put up a fight, demand to see his superior and call him a thief (and get my team and I shot in the middle of nowhere) or do I give it up with a smile and go on my way?

DoS "issues" Anderson and Sheppard suits, John Lobb shoes and all kinds of high end goodies but no jewelry (too easily convertible to cash i.e. the "I lost it" syndrome). As such we provide our own. Personally I am not willing to risk taking a 4800 dollar hit when I can just as easily take a 350 dollar one.

This guy, by going through his past auctions and feedback has sold several other watches as the real deal that also happen to be watches that have been replicated.

Contacted past buyers today

Not sure if the buyers have any legal recourse at this point if they are fakes but hopefully it'll bring enough pain for wire fraud via a continuing criminal enterprise charges.
