Samlambo, that's a great story. I'm having my dads TT Date reconditioned by tempo king ala TRF as we speak, looking forward to getting it back for the same reasons.

To answer your question, I think the face may be a 1970s one, do you have the model number? Do the day and date have the double "quickset" feature?

I am looking at YG DDs and like the older faces without the small roman markings around the edge best. I did not know they did diamond faces in the 70s, but my knowledge of Rolex models and practices is very slight compared to most on this site.

I dont think there is any any model number on the back and I just put it back in my vault, will check next time I take it out. However my grandpa did purchase this in the mid 90's from what I remember. Thanks
