Guess who's back?

Hey guys and girls, I'm back from Charleston. The wedding was awesome and so was the dinner cruise and the reception. Not to mention the city was beautiful. Ok now to the good stuff. Of course I drug my parents into a couple of AD's. To make a long story short since I have to do some school work, one AD we went in had a very large selection. Mostly TT and a few solid golds. They also had the TT rhodium dial Daytona and the metorite Daytona on black strap. Beautiful pieces. Unfortunately they didn't have a SS sub, but they had a few TT's. They did have a SS GMT II that I really liked. Well I'm assuming that this lady was the owner, was very nice and helpful. We were talking and she said she had given her son a no-date sub when he graduated college as a gift. She said he has dyslexia, so it was hard. IMO he really deserved it. Anyway to shorten the rest of it up she let me try on the GMT. That was my first every Rolex on my wrist. That thing is built like a tank. It was the pepsi bezel BTW. I am really glad she let me try it on, because most people really don't want me trying them on. Now that I have had one on my wrist, it has ended the shifting between watches and put me Rolex all the way. Sub of course. The price on the GMT was $4525 USD, although I thought they were more than a sub. Are they? Anyway, have to finish a paper.

Welcome back, Tyler. Charleston is a great city. Hope you got to see more than some ADs.

But I'm glad you did get to handle some Rollies and even try them on. It is a great feeling. Now I have to tell you, if it's between a Pepsi GMT and a SS Sub, I would go with the Sub (surprised to hear me say that?), because I think the all black watch is much better looking than the Pepsi, or even the Red/Black GMT. If you get a chance to handle and try on the all black GMT, see if I'm not right.

I think the Sub is $4750. The GMT is a bit cheaper anyway. Glad you got to try one. Now you're totally hooked

I may be wrong on the price Tyler. I was a math major and I can't remember numbers Regardless, I do believe the GMT and Explorer II are cheaper than the Sub. Why, I have no idea. Maybe it's the triple lock crown and all that stuff.

Bruce is correct. The sub is more expensive than the GMT and the ExpII. In fact, the GMT is more expensive than the ExpII by about $50. I can't recall the price diff up here (since the mailman has my pricelist, ahem! ).

My guess is the sub is more expensive cuz it's prolly their fastest mover and produced in the largest quantities. There's no logic to why (because the GMT has an added complication), but then Rolex pricing and production numbers has never used rational logic, either.

Hey Tyler. How are you? Here's the latest prices from the cataloge that Johnny sent me.The prices are in Canadian Bacon, I mean dollars and I used Google to convert them. I think they're high, but based on what the dollar is worth I could be wrong.

16570 ExpII $6050 CDN $5115.90 USD

16610 SS SubDate $6170 CDN $5217.36 USDF

Again, there could be different prices in different countries. I'm not sure. Like Johnny, I'm under the impression that the Sub is about $50 more. For some reason a price of around $4800 rings a bell in my head for a SS Sub Date. Maybe someone else can chime in here. Hope this helps.

The Sub is more? I really thought it was the $4525. I guess I'm failing on my job.

Hey Tyler. Welcome back. Glad you got a chance to wear a Rolex. I remember the first time I had one on my wrist. What a feeling it must have been for you. Glad you had a great time at the wedding also.

Did you catch the garter at the wedding?

Glad to hear you had a good trip Tyler, did you remember to bring back some cake for us? I bet you haven't washed your wrist yet, after trying on a Rolex.

Well AJ, I've washed my wrist, but mainly because there is this glowing gold coronet stuck on it. It's odd because it appeared about two hours after I tried the watch on. It sort of burns too. BTW there is a green circle around it. Oh yea and I missed the garter by about two people.

I'd sue them Tyler, you wouldn't be the first to have a nasty reaction to a hologram.

So did you try on the Rollie before or after the wedding? The hologram has been known to cause early dimensia. Just look at JJ

I give up who is back?

Glad you had a good time Tyler, that lady was very cool for letting you try on the watch and your parents must also be really cool to let you drag them to an AD on a weekend getaway.

Hmmmm. Maybe stuff around here is cheap because I think my local AD said that the Sub-date was around $4525. I really hope those conversions are wrong.

It's actually not a fair comparison to do a straight currency conversion from canuck bux to greenbacks.

In Canada, our thoughtful government slaps on insanely high import duties. It's actually cheaper, even with the lower Canadian dollar, for Canadians to get their Rolex watches in the USA. How we get them over the border without the taxman knowing is another story. (I have heard stories of guys wearing them across, and mailing the boxes - which get opened at customs - and then they get a bill for the duties on the retail value of the watch... or worse).

Just look at the list Daren posted and compare to the prices Paul posted. BIG difference.
