39mm Explorer gets my vote because it looks great with casual clothing or a suit yet has a tough mechanical movement that can get down and dirty. It's a sports watch thinly disguised as a conservative watch.

My runner up vote would be the Sub because it has a timeless design that looks good with everything. Plus, you have the added features of date and an elapsed time bezel.

I say Sub or ExII. I use the bezel as a second timezone. I say if you want a versitile watch this day in age, you need a second timezone. I have business with 3 of them, and the bezel helps me keep it straight.

The Explorer is a great all-around watch, but the DJ is no less so.

Given the "anything goes" fashion climate, the Sub is probably the most versatile, given its elapsed time bezel.

I own all three and I love them all.

Case in point: I attended a funeral this past weekend. I was wearing the Explorer; tasteful, unobtrusive, and appropriate. Worked beautifully to a white shirt with cufflinks and a black suit. It works equally well in a boardroom or in a bar, with jeans or shorts. I own Subs, Sea-Dwellers, Deepsea, dress watches etc, but nothing comes close.

How about the DJ Turn-o-graph. Does everything, sans the extra GMT/24 hour hand. But it dresses up better and has the "casual" look. It gets my vote.

All that being said, why would a person want only ONE Rolex??? I prefer them to be different and unique...so I have to own a few for different occasions (fyi, Ex2 on its way for golf outings).
