I had to join Linkedin for work.....

The purpose was to get new clients....

So far after 6 months I haven't gotten a single new client from Linkedin and neither has anyone else in my firm. So I'm calling it a waste of time for that purpose.

I thought one is supposed to get linked up with a whole lot of potential clients in business...sure that can happen...but getting work as a result of that isn't going to happen unless one does a whole lot more.

I ignored a few requests to join LinkedIn, until my boss sent a request at which point I joined. I then found out even he was reluctant to join and had accidentally sent requests to his entire address book. Haven't been on since.

I advise people who join LinkedIn just to kick the tires not to bother...especially if they're looking to be found for job opportunities or business opportunities. My recently fired boss has been on LinkedIn for years and had a partially completed profile. He's been in the same industry for 25+ years, 15 of them at a VP level, and has an embarrassingly low 50 connections...If you've been in a $120B industry for 25+ years, you better have more than a few connections!

IMO, it looks better to not be on LinkedIn than to have a half ass profile with little or no effort put into it
