There was a time while deployed to Iraq that we carried a hell of a lot of cash (in backpacks or duffle bags) to buy local vehicles so we didn't stand out as Americans in those brand new Japanese and American made SUVs . The best deals were made when the seller saw cash in front of him.

Should have used a credit card and got the 22k in points. Then used the 22k you had laying around in the bank to pay off the card when e bill came due.

I use the discover card for any purchase to get points....the way my wife blows money we should have a 1,000,000 plus points by EOY

I use my card for almost everything to get points, this time around they wanted $1,500 more for CC. I guess I'm not used to handling cash anymore

Cash doesn't work at places like Tourneau or Wempe, but in the smaller shops, it works wonders. Small stores probably under report cash income from the tax man

Not exactly, but I understand the feeling. It hits a lot harder when you pay in cash. It feels better, but this is how people get themselves in debt. It doesn't seem all that real when you plunk down plastic.

22,000 sounds like a lot when spoken, and looks like a lot when written, but having it in the hand is something else! I once paid £18,000 in cash for a new beetle convertible for my wife, just to see the look on the dealers face, it was priceless! He had no idea what to do with it. But seeing it in the hand did make me think twice!!
