Audemars Piguet Offshore Chronograph is a nice watch but here is a question for you, could it take the beating a Rolex could? Beautiful watch but not as tuff as Rolex (IMHO)

Carrying a gun in self defense has issues too. Back when I work law enforcement, four of us were out for a good time weekend at the boardwalk in Santa Cruz. One of the group had words with a local guy who claimed to own the parking lot we were in. Long story short, pulling out a gun, even when confronted with a druggie wielding a tire iron, opens a whole new can of worms. Any time there is a gun involved it's a huge PITA. Better off using ANYTHING but a gun if you can, because you WILL need a lawyer. And spend money. Period.

As I see from the wrist shots posted, a lot of the folks around here sport 6.5" wrists.
Your best defense against aggression is in order of preference:
a. Your mind
b. Your feet
Let the Rolie do what it was made for; tell the time and keep you occuppied on TRF

Keep the bad guy talking. For some reason we don't attack while we talk, and just before we attack, we shut up. Make your move while he is rambling on, you are likely to get a 2-3 second head start. And if you plan to throw a punch, start talking to him and make your move while rambling on. For some reason in us humans, we prioritize like that. Use it to your advantage.

Happy to comment. Apologies to JJ for the hijack, but on this thread I don't feel too badly.

No expert on ROOs. I did own one for a day, but returned it as it had the wrong dial. I have lusted after some of their limited additions and will probably buy a ROO Navi (NAVY) this spring. I find it a beautiful, casual wear watch with jeans, shorts etc.

What I have learned prowling the AP forums is that the design of the watch (quite thick) puts the bezel in a precarious spot and people bang the SS bezel fairly easily. As it has sharp edges and is polished on the sides you can get a noticeable ding on it. The human body as an amazing thing. I was amazed to discover how often I hit my head when working in very familiar close quarters when I was required to wear a very compact helmet. We probably miss hitting door casing etc with our wrist by a millimeter or two. Add a fairly thick watch and trouble results. The rubber bezel and carbon fiber models hold up better I hear.

As far as shock resistance I feel no difference from Rolex. Regarding water resistance, certain Rolex models might measure up better, but I generally find it a silly factor. Most Sea Dwellers and Subs never see the bottom of the sink, very few see the bottom of the swimming pool and probably less than one percent are actually used as dive watches.
My VC Overseas and the AP ROO in practical terms are just as useful. Personally, I see no point actually using a watch priced in the 5 digits when I can use one as functional for $300 when in risky environs anyway.
