It's inevitable. Eventually it will get scratched no matter how careful you are. If you are like me who keep "babying" my watches, a little precaution & protection may help to minimize the chances.

1) Wear long sleeve shirt or;
2) Tape a layer of clear scotch tape over the clasp like I do - granted it's a little ugly but at least it will help to a certain extend.

Wear it, enjoy it to the full & get it back like new at service time.

Get a PCL brushed if its the hairline scratches that annoy you. Again it will be put back to PCL at service time.

I did buy a Nato strap I was going to swap with to protect my PCL but then I decided I'd rather put up with hairline scratches than scratching the watch head/lugs installing & removing a different strap.

Enjoy it and it makes a watch a loved watch.

These ergonomic keyboard wrist rests serve a dual purpose.

And a notebook version exists.

I know it's rather silly and unsexy but that's me. I tend to do this with every new 'baby' I get until the novelty wears off - like in a month time....

I always cover my clasp with clear tape. 3m makes some good stuff. The best is the "clear bra" that they use on the nose of cars. Its not really adhesive, just clings on. It will stay on forever and then you can just peel it off. It doesn't yellow over time and its wicked durable. When I had my wife's car done I asked the guy for some scrap material and he gave me a bunch of it.

My PCL bracelet is being polished at the Dallas RSC as I type this. It should be "good as new" and back in my possession by the end of the month. Cleaned, oiled, as-new. I love typing that!

BTW, I added a keyboard drawer with a wrist pad and this should reduce the desk diving scratches.

I'm assuming it's the clasp rubbing against the desk surface that you say is causing you worry about scratching it (obviously it's not the keyboard).

If it worries you why don't you simply put a single peice of thick-stock paper underneath your wrist where you rest it on the desk. Either that or simply order a large slim leather bound deskpad/scribbler type thing.

Problem sorted.

Yep exactly, I'll either do this or get one of those gel wrist rests.

Dont think i could leave scratches on my watch for 5-7 years. I might not live that long !

Dont think there is any right or wrong way. Some like to have a clean watch, some can live with scratches.

Personally once a month the bad scratches need a little rub with a bit of cape cod lubricant on a cotton wool bud.

If you are worried about such petty things I'm sorry but you overspent and probably should not have bought a Rolex. A rolex is meant to be worn. I wander if 007 put an aftermarket strap on his sub to prevent scratches while he was fighting.

Tough crowd. Personally I'm not a fan of having a lot of scratches on a $9,000 'tool' watch.

I also wonder how many of these folks baby their 'tool' cars and buff or remove every little blemish or get every ding or dent repaired. But that's different, right?

Just thinking.

Have your Rolex serviced and polished.

When it is returned, put in a safe and never, ever for any reason remove it, except for an occasional, nostalgic glance.

Under no circumstances should you remove the watch from its protective case.

My son put down some sticky back cloth type material on on the side wear the clasp lays when typing. It a pic of a U.S flag. He uses an apple lap top.

Easy.

Just buy a desk that's made from cotton wool.

And then finally you can cover up and never have to post a "Is it safe to wear while on vacation"
