I'd recommend the Seiko SUN015P1 GMT that came out at Basel last year. This will be my next inexpensive alternative to my 116713 for travel. Comes on a strap (SUN015P2) and blue dial w/yellow 24 hour hand (SUN017P1). It's a fixed bezel, two time zone watch. Not sure about the WR rating. Here's a thread about it from another member who picked one up recently: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...light=sun015p1

About $500-$600:

Casio G-shock, or a Tissot quartz. Can't get more understated than these.

Ten years after OP got his watch, we'll still be seeing replies. :)

Another vote for the Seiko Monster, Hamiltons, or even Victorinox diver.

I got this one for my daily usage. Its Seiko SNP065.
It cost me less than $500, and it has a fine look with blue arrow.

Christopher Ward Trident watches. Particularly the GMT. Good quality and if you wait for one of their regular 15% off sales well within your price range.

From the text in your link:

And because the Trident has a uni-directional bezel it is possible to know the time in three time-zones simultaneously. Eat your heart out, Rolex!
Yeah, think I'll flip my 116713 to buy a dozen of these, LOL. One of the dumbest comments I've ever seen in an ad copy. I will never understand a unidirectional bezel on a GMT watch. It's as though they just don't get the concept.

Picked up this Squale last month. It has a ETA2824-2 movement & keeps great time. Not too much love here on TRF for Squale but I like it. A great watch for $500.

You can find Doxa watches that were produced in the early 1960s that are very reliable for $100 to 200 a piece. I'm a dog trainer and have 2 of them that I wear at the kennel. They're manual wind with solid movements and handle abuse (i.e. sweat, bites, saliva) well.
