I like the Heuer because the rolex scares me. It's not a king midas.... and at its price while being an aftermarket is not something i will buy. Heuer's are increasing in value nowadays

Between the two..., I say Heuer. Not a fan of that particular Rolex dial, and I was a huge Heuer fan before I could afford to buy vintage Rolexes...

From the title alone, I was about to say Rolex. But looking at the 2 you have in mind, definitely the vintage Heuer.

That Heuer is a winner! The chrono and rally strap add a cool touch, and I'm not a fan of diamonds on watches...add to that the questions the membership here have raised about the Rolex, and that's one more good reason to go with the Heuer.

You should go for it - He'll be really happy.

You've done well based on the fact that you've asked this question on a Rolex website! Testament to how much nicer the Heuer is out of these two!

To be... Or not to be...

I am glad that many people have been so kind to advise.

Have you taken a visit to jewellers to see the new Rolexs and heuers ?

You can get some free info brosures and history about the two companies. That is never a waste of time. If you do not theres a small chance that he will. Look at it this way, when you find out more about the brands themselves how the watches are built, and asking lots of questions to the jewellers not only are they earning their wages, but most importantly you can better picture which brand he is more likely to like. Quite a number of men look past the look of the watch some take notice of the brand, as well as the practicality of the watch.

I can only tell you for a while I wanted a heuer but 20 years ago $3000 was way out of my budget. This was years before I heard of Rolex. I spent 2 years reading and researching on many brands including Heuer and Rolex. After choosing the right opportunity to get the Milgauss GV the rest is history. Best decision about a watch I ever made. I would be fortunate to get a similar feelings or a future watch.

Look at as many models as you can because not to help choosing the right one or possibly find a better third alternative but just to see what is available. It is an exciting excercise to look for a watch. It is a very personal thing to buy for someone particularly a loved one. Ensure to get the watch certified by the official service centre no worser feeling buying a fake. You cannot fix a mistake like that.

After reading your final decision...

It clearly sounds like you just want to buy the watch that you prefer as opposed to which he would rather have.

Forget which brand is which for the purpose of the next statement what is wrong with diamonds or gold anyway ? If he has lots of ofer gold jewelry then it makes more sense to get something to compliment gold like... Gold. If he does not this can be a really nice change. Does he does own and wear any gold or diamonds or has zero of that? Take time to think about that one.

I never met anyone dissapointed buying a rolex because of the brand name however I lost count how many people wished that they chose the Rolex.

Well from my experience if I get someone a present because I knew they they would like it and 95% of the time I was correct because they really liked it, then it's a worthy mind set to have. I wouldn't want to but something for do one because it suits me better, might as well buy the item for myself instead.

You can't put Rolex (in house movements) and Heuer (ETA/Valjoux) in the same sentence: They are completely different watches.

One is a great watch and the other, well, it tells the time and is a kind-'o-nice watch. Even vintage ones, because you would have to go wayy back to find a decent Heuer watch, because there are some.

Go Rolex.
