By brand recognition, the submariner wins.

Sub C does shout Rolex to me..But when I see a Sub I see just another Sub...Kind of dime a dozen now a days..This is coming from a DJII owner..

Any watch with the Crown logo catches my eye....

After reading everyone's posts I agree that the sub is the iconic Rolex because of its history, and the dj2 because of the trade mark fluted bezel. It's also true as a couple members stated that it depends what part of the world. I do believe the sub is the most copied style watch period, I see so many invicta, seiko, citizen, etc watches that could easily be mistaken for a sub from a distance.

You see just as many DJ copies.

That would be the Submariner model 16610 (not the newer ceramic bezel version).

It is much more recognized as the quintessential Rolex in popular culture imagery.

Between those two, I'd say the Sub.

Now, if it was between a Sub and the 36mm DD...I'd say the DD.

To me, the DD is the quintessential Rolex if you're looking for something that "says Rolex". The DDII is too big and the proportions aren't quite right.

I had to vote something so I voted for Sub-C

But in my opinion most recognizable is the President and the GMT-Pepsi

There's a disparity in the poll numbers, almost 2-1 in favor of the submariner, but that is due to the choices. The DJII, while a fine watch, a beautiful modern style watch, is not, IMHO, a classic Rolex. I'll bet if the contest was between the Sub and the DJ, the numbers would be much closer.

As a Rolex enthusiast I would recognise any Rolex watch on someone, as I often do, so for me both the same. In terms of more iconic, then I would say the sub as it is arguably accepted as the quintessential diving watch across all brands - historically at least. AM.

For brand recognition...INVICTA is the real winner. And, that's not just my sour grapes talking.

The sour grapes comment was just a stab at humor sorry if it offended you.

Probably should have said sooner I was just doing a poll between the two I own. . Out of any Rolex I'd say the day date or sub is probably the most iconic

Neither. The DateJust 36mm is the brand representative. Maybe the Sub after that. Definately not the DJ2

They are both pretty equal, however at least for me when I first knew of Rolex I always pictured something like a datejust or president.

From a distance, what shouts Rolex to me is the Cyclop. Then it is the Sub and then the fluted bezel.
