Any views would be great.
I got 2 Seadwellers orig ones .... I got one DEEPSEA .... I am gonna get rid of my GMT2C and pay the diff and get another DEEPSEA ... So my stock will be:
2 Subs, 2 SDs and 2 DSSDs ... Awesome. .. all divers!! ... but that frigging gmt2c is such a pretty and flashy watch that I just can't being myself to selling it...

I originally wanted the Sea Dweller, back when I got my first Rolex in June 2008, I bought a SS DJ, mainly due to the difference in price, but they also had a DSSD and I loved it but it was way too much.

I would love to have a SD just to have one in the collection, but the DSSD is a sweet watch, I like the size and heft to it, I also have a PAM 005 so I try to rotate every other day or so.

If I had to pick the PAM or the Original SD, I would go PAM since it is so different looking.

I've come to the realization that I can't wear anything but a Rolex Diver and will eventually trade my SS Daytona for a second SD4000 (lug hole), or a 14060M (two line), or a DSSD.

You're definitely a bigger fan than me, but I can't help but wonder why you want to have so many doubles, is it for when one has to be serviced and you don't have to go with out, or do you keep one copy of each in the safe to have a mint double ?

The two subs I have are different -- one is ss and the other is tt ,,, then the SDs, I got two because I bought one and then a few weeks later I got a bonus at work and decided to buy another watch ... nothing caught my eye except another SD ... then I bought the dssd and then the gmt2c .... the gmt2c is the only non-diver ... and DSSD is such a massive chunk of steel, that I wouldn't mind owning 2 of them ...because to me, lets say for $9,000 there is no better bang for your buck than the deepsea...so that' why I want another deepsea..and will trade my gmt2c for it...

I also have both, as well as the 16610LV, and wear the DSSD on week nights, weekends, holidays, and occasionally to the office. For me, it's just an amazing piece of engineering and it was worth flipping my SS Daytona to have it.

Different watch than the SD, and I'm sure you won't turn back on e it's on your wrist.

I've been offered a decent trade for my Panerai Zero to get a DSSD. Tempting...

Not true I have several watches that will dwarf the DSSD one 55mm other 52mm. Even my Timfactors Dreadnought dive watch is bigger and heavier than the DSSD. But although rated to 500m has been tested to 2000m and cost then just £400.The Dreadnoughts case and bracelet manufactured from 316L stainless steel.Case Diameter = 46 mm, 15.6 mm thick, and 54 mm lug tip to lug tip, total Weight = 265 grams if you are into heavy a lot heavier than the DSSD.Movement Chronometer grade ETA ETA2824-2T tested to the European DIN standard -2 + 4 over 24 hours which is to a higher standard than the Swiss.Mine with certificate below showing less than half a second a day after test.

I have both and maybe I am the biggest fan of the DSSD (check my avatar details). Not redundant to have both. If I had some more cash right niw, I'd buy another DSSD and save again for another SD. That would be redundant.........:)

Both the DSSD and the SD are two watches I'd have a hard time parting with should the need arise....

But with that said, having similar watches in the collection is OK with me!

And each one of them set for a different time zone?

I have both the DSSD and the SD. If it comes to choosing just one, the SD wins hands down.

i have both, and i will never get rid of the SD, the DSSD is awesome too, but the SD takes all the wrist time, so I actually hardly even wear the DSSD

I have both, they are very different and each so special it would be hard to part with either, the 16600 is my 'dress watch' where as the DSSD is more for casual wear.

My reasoning from this recent thread http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...=305104&page=2

It all depends on what you are looking for and how you are going to use the watch.

The heft and handling of the DSSD is something else, it is easily the best engineered Rolex I've ever handled. I find the matte dial and domed crystal very attractive and more importantly it works really well with sifficient amount of lume. It is simply a bad ass watch that you can take to hell and back. And then some. On the downside, it is the only Rolex I ever remove from my wrist, it is really a bit too top-heavy and the tickness is on the extreme side. I am not the type of person to tell anyone else how to live their lives, but a 215 gr watch that is 18mm thick is a bit extreme on a 6.5 in wrist.

The SD 16600 is a cult watch with a strong following, especially on online communities like TRF. It is the true original extreme dive watch that was used by pro divers for decades, not by posers. Best of all, it comes in a very compact and under-the-radar package, and it doesn't scream Rolex as a Sub or GMT does with the cyclops. Downsides? The lume is really sub-par by today's standards and the stamped clasp will get lose/worn out over time.

Which one to pick? Only you could decide. Mint SD's are getting harder and harder to find, while DSSDs are readily available in any city in the world...

The right answer: get both! Best of both worlds!

.... And to think the DSSD was about $8000 in 2008. Now it's around $12000!

The SD is over built any way. The DSSD has a H2 image to it. Big for the sake of being big.

When the DSSD was released I tried one of the first to arrive in Oz at Grima in Melbourne.
Offered to buy it then but it was on hold for a customer.
I liked it a lot - not too big but it was thick.

Well, it is actually surprisingly compact and small for the specs - we are talking waterproof and tested to 3,900 meters here! To achieve that in a package shy of 44mm is very impressive.

It is however a watch that is, like a H2, made to be extreme and results in a design language which is not as refined and subtle as the SD 16600.

The original Sea-Dweller is the pinnacle of the professional instrument/tool watch design. It was extreme enough to do the job - waterproof to an amazing depth of 1,200m, but Rolex delivered that in the same 40mm package, just 1.5-2mm thicker than a regular Submariner. Those were the days before things like "wrist presence", look-at-me and the rest of the reality-show and narcissism ruling the morale of today.

I have to vote SD because it is a combination of two watches, sprinkled with unicorn horn dust, kissed by a fairy, and bled on by the gods of the mystic waters. Seriously, I hate to say it, but if the SD was my first, it would have been my last Rolex. It is a PERFECT watch. As a matter of fact, I'm going to put it on to buy todays lottery ticket for good luck. If I win, I'll buy you an SD, and 100 more!
