Actually, my wife is very pleased with my four Rolex purchases and a TT DJ for her. She considers them a great investment, and since they were all Grey Market purchases, she was also very happy with the cost!
Honest!!!

No, it's rather due to the slo-mo running on beaches and my very average singing voice...

Hmmm, in my case it's always been my HUSBAND who has gotten mad about me spending so much on watches....BUT he just got his first, a Rolex Sub Date, so thankfully he 'understands' a bit more now! Ha!
For now I'm content, but I know myself and somehow I don't think my collection will stay as it is forever....guess I better wait a while before talking watches again with him!!! |

Part of the budget?
So you just budget the cost of buying a new Rolex into the trip to Switzerland to see the family, right?

My wife understands my need for a watch collection. Women have so many ways to accessories with purses, jewelery, make up ,etc. Men have their watches. The last time I purchased a watch I bought my wife the "Uma Thurman" Tag Heuer Link diamond dial and bezel. That should keep her quiet for a few years. My wife has a purse collection and shoe collection... so I can justify my watch collection.

Profits from my "hobby" business are used for watch purchases. Since I'm not using funds from "Our" budget, my wife does not have a problem. Of course, every now and then I'll buy her something nice too

This is why I handle the household budget! In all reality, I spend time getting her used to the idea that I'm going to buy something expensive. For the most part, if I say, "don't worry about it. we're fine," then she's fine. I also threw in a lady's DJ for her. It actually arrived today, but I'm taking it home so she can open it up herself.
The thing that annoys her to no end is my always talking about watches. That "problem" only started after I found this website! |

I've bought both of my Rolexes since I've been with my current squeeze. The first one, she was like "wow--that's a lot for a watch." The second one, she was like "wait--isn't this one just like the other one?" I explained to her how much I like them, and that I wasn't going into debt or neglecting savings. She came around.
I figure if I can buy two more without her completely going off, then she's a keeper!! |

My wife encouraged me to get the GMT a few weeks ago, the fact that I'm already talking about another Rolex and checking the forums every day is starting to wear thin with her.
She'll be fine with me getting another Rolex if I bring home the eternity band she's been looking at first. |

Her late father had a Rolex so watch interest is tolerated.

My other half doesn't know what I spend on watches and prefers casio and pretty cheap watches.

Mine is in no way mollified with the 2 that I have bought her, wears a man's Luminox 90% of the time ('keeps better time, easier to read, costs $200!"), has the first dime she ever made and is the only reason that I don't live under an interstate highway bridge, eat out of dumpsters and own the "World's Most Spectacular Rolex Collection."

I'm the one who talked my husband into buying his first Rolex, a two-tone Datejust. Then last year I am the one who bought him a SS Daytona. I would love to get him additional Rolex watches, but although he loves the ones he has he just isn't interested in having a collection.

Women get more upset about the amount of time one spends on things that are not her then about money spent, as long as the money isn't spent on other women.

i'm lucky - my wife doesn't even flinch when i add yet another rolex to my collection. my only problem is that she doesn't like rolex for herself! i try to get her to wear them but she just doesn't like the way they look on her wrist because she has small wrists. my a.d. just rolls his eyes when he sees that i'm married to the only woman that won't take a rolex if you beg her to!

Lol! What a great thread. I thought I was the only one. Reading through these posts is like reading through a blow-by-blow of what I went through with my GF when I bought the GMT.

I received approval from my wife that I was "approved" to allow myself to get my new DJ in stainless because she liked the jubilee face. Otherwise I am not permitted any more watches because the cost of my watch exceeds the money she spends on clothes and shoes for about 3 years

Karis, maybe that's the key. I went through the same thing with acoustic guitars and but what's the use of buying your wife an instrument if she doesn't play? With watches, you don't need to be able to play them to wear them :)
