The smell of my every two year brand new Lexus.

This Christmas was the Lexus 400H Hybrid, Silver with black leather interior, Mark Levinson sound system, 18 inch wheels, LED Brake Lights, self leveling and cornering HID headlights, back-up camera, rear seat entertainment, navigation, etc.

I'm soooooooo spoiled

Okay, okay, before the PC I do so love a perfectly sharpened knife, especially when I'm slicing that eye fillet extra-fine to make my beef carpaccio.
Beef Carpaccio. Now that sounds interesting! I like good sharp knives too. I also invested in a good meat slicer which has made life a lot easier!

IMO a pocket knife isn't sharp until I can shave the hair off my arm but kitchen knives do not respond as well to a wet stone and I'm unwilling to run our cutlery through some counter-top vibrating stone machine for fear of ruining the blades. I have looked for knife sharpening services in my area but to no avail.
Stone machine? I do it the old-fashioned way, my friend - just a big old sharpening stone under a trickling tap. I've been sharpening knives since I was a kid, and it does take a bit of practice to keep the angle of the blade constant while you slide it over the stone, and I only drag back lightly to get rid of any burrs, not hard enough to create a fragile edge.

Yeah, Nancy - I use a slight variation on a recipe by Tetsuya Wakuda (he runs a restaurant in Sydney). I have to be careful who I serve it to, though - some folks take one look and say, "Ewww, it's still raw!".

As we say in my neck of the woods, "Just cut its hooves off and wipe its arse".

Yeah, I do love my cooking. I do get territorial in the kitchen, though, so while I'm whipping something up, Sash wisely goes and watches telly.

I think I'll start a recipes thread - it'll be up some time today.

Rainy day at the coast (Wells next to Sea preferably)

Sat in car with fish and chips, plenty of salt and vinegar and a white roll with plenty of butter.

Washed down with ice cold Coca Cola.

Bad for me....but perfect!

Now who was that against? I came in late turned the TV on and saw that fly in, brilliant goal. It was the 1991 cup final that really killed Gazza's career with that reckless tackle when he injured his knee, never was the same player again....crying shame

Ah, another Wusthof man, I see. Nothing beats Japanese steel, but Solingen makes very respectable blades.

Now I can't remember what the brand is, but there's this Japanese manufacturer who makes blades samurai-sword style, and you can actually see all of the folds on the blade. I'm going to look seriously into getting one of those.

Those Mellor designs looks pretty good, and the prices are reasonable too. I haven't seen them in Melbourne stores but I'll keep an eye out for them.
